View Full Version : Cheap Blinkie Recommendation

I know everyone is always searching for lights to help be seen while commuting and I also know that if we get them on the cheap, all the better :)

While I don't dispute that the SuperFlash is pretty much one of the brightest, I also have a Bell taillight that is pretty darn bright. And it's $9 versus $25 for the SuperFlash.

It's the Bell Night Shield Taillight. http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Night-Shield-Multi-Use-Safety/dp/B000AAYBY6 I have two of them, both purchased at WalMart for $8.88 each. One is mounted to the back of my helmet, the other is on the back of my rack. They are very bright: my husband says he can see me at least 3/4 of a mile away at night with only one of them on flash in the back of my bike. It seems to be reasonably durable, too. I haven't had any issues with it yet and I've been using it for two months now.

I have both the SF and a couple of Bells and side by side they really seem to be close in brightness (the SF *is* brighter, though). Still, if you are on a budget and need a blinkie, I'd totally recommend the Bell.

p.s. After reading the Amazon reviews, I tried to pop the red cover part off the reflector and it's extremely hard to do, so I have a feeling that Bell has tried to fix that issue.
