Has anyone had any luck getting chain dirt/ grease off a car seat?

I got grease on my car upholstery years ago. Can't remember what got it off, but it is possible. Have you gone on-line to look up stain removal? You should find a guide that lists methods/products that work. Another suggestion is to call your local car mechanic. He/she will hopefully know how to remove the grease stains. I was worried when it happened to me that my car seat was ruined. The grease came out and everything was ok!

straight Simple Green or Dawn ( and a scrub brush)
Citus-solve might do it, too.

And dishwashing liquid will do - they are designed to cut grease and they do work. Dawn, like Irulun says, is very effective.

I'd be afraid of Citru-Solv soaking through the upholstery and dissolving the foam
If it was me I'd stick to something water-based as they've suggested. I haven't even bothered to mess with the black spot on my car seat... probably grease from one of the vehicles, but who even knows. Let me know what works. :p

This happened to me several times last year. Trying to fit two bikes into a Camry gets interesting. Especially when your husband is 6'4". His bike seat is at my elbow height. :p
To get the chain grease off the car seat I mixed together some Dawn & Lysol all-purpose cleaner in a tub of water then took a scrub brush to it. So far it's come out every time and hasn't damaged the upholstery. Be sure to lift off whatever comes out with a dry rag. Otherwise you're just dispersing the gunk over a larger area.
HTH!

It's happened to my car, too, but I figure it's just wear and tear. Next time I buy a car, though, I might well consider a black interior.

Thanks everyone! I was worried about spreading the stain and making it worse!

I just cleaned up a lot of chain grease from my back seat about 3 weeks ago. I used something called Goo-Gone. It's a solvent so it's not nice. But I didn't use a lot and without a lot of residual left. It completely removed the grease and you can't even tell there was grease there. It also did not change the color of the fabric.

Goo Gone?

Yes. Goo-Gone. (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=81908&aid=336064&aparam=goo%20gone&scinit1=goo%20gone)
Hmm. Says it's non-toxic. Maybe it's not a solvent. Smells like citrus though.

Mudmucker- We posted at the same time! I was suggesting Goo Gone as a cleanser for arielmoon!
Great minds think alike!
Go to an auto supply store, something like Pep boys or Auto Zone.
They should know.

If it's leather seats, try hair spray.
If it's fabric, try gently dabbing it with Wet Ones first then consider Spot Shot carpet cleaner.

consider Spot Shot carpet cleaner
+1
Spot Shot is good stuff.
Rub it with peanut butter and marshmallow creme. Then crumble some graham crackers on it and see if the dog will lick it off.

I also use my Camry for bike transport -- tan interior, beautiful chain grease "scars". I'll try everyone's recommendations -- especially Zen's! :p
Now.... does anyone know how to sew up the seams where the dog's foot broke through?

I can highly recommend the Saris Bones bike racks. Sucks if you have to leave your bikes because they don't exactly lock but when I was driving a car that rack saved my life. Now they come in all sorts of awesome colors. I got a lot of compliments on it, even from folks who weren't perverts saying "Nice rack."
In the mean time dish soap does cut grease as I have learned after several camping trips.

I use a carpet cleaner called Resolve. I spray it on - let it sit for 2 - 3 minutes and then scrub with an old tooth brush. It works for my tan interior.
I barely have any traces in my car.

Sounds like you need to make an appointment with a upholstery shop. What kind of dog does that?? A great dane?

Goo-Gone worked great on my area rug. Same thing, chain grease.
