Shoe question...

I got my first road bike about a week ago and I love riding it. However, I would like some bike shoes to ride in, I have been using my regular trainers and they are too flimsy. I'm too much of a weenie to go clipless just yet. So I have plaatform petals. Now my question is, are there any non-clipless or old style shoes out there for riding on platforms? I don't want to spend a fortune, but I want some good bike shoes. I plan on going clipless eventually, but I want to be really confident on my bike first.

So where can I find them, or are they still out there???

If you intend to go with a recessed cleat style pedal in the end many touring shoes or light mt bike shoes come with a piece of rubber in the cleat position that actually has to be removed before you can install cleats. This means the shoes come with an intact sole and are perfectly fine to use with flat pedals and/or toe clips. Styles that do not have deep treads are more suited to use with toe clips as deep tread can make it difficult to get in and out of the clips. Shimano makes some very nice shoes that fit this description.

Ah! You rock!!!! I really like the first ones, the Shimano SH-MT41G, they are pretty cool looking, and not too expensive. Sweet!

What size are you? I have a pair of Specialized Tahos in 42 that have never been used that I bought exactly for that purpose. I was thinking of going back to toe clips but decided to stay clipless and thus never wore them. I'd be willing to sell them for a deep discount...
