I got back on the bike today (sat.) after being off for two weeks due to tendonitis in my right ankle. I did 38 miles, mostly flat, with my brace on. The pedaling motion was not a problem. However, I could not stand up so I was thankful it was flat.

The bad new is that my ankle swelled up again after going to the gym wednesday night. I have been RICE'ing it since then but had to help my sister-n-law move last night. That didn't help my ankle..... However, I love her no less for needing to move!!!

I'm planning on doing a century ride next saturday so I could use positive, healing thoughts coming my ankle's way :)!!!!

Sending you healing thoughts and prayers!!!
What is that century like - would it be flat or do you have a lot of climbing to do?

Good luck on your ride! It sounds like you're recovering well. I had tendonitis in my ankle last December and it's still swollen. I really miss that bone bump on the inside of my ankle...I haven't seen it for 9 months now! I wrap it with sports tape and an ace bandage every time I ride, even if it's just a short ride. Sounds like your brace helps, so I would definitely wear it on your century. Maybe take some Aleve or ibuprofen as preventative medicine before your ride. And if you could ice it at the lunch stop, that might help too.

K!!
Glad to hear from you! Sorry to hear your ankle is still giving you some fits. I will certainly be sending some more positive, healing thoughts your way.

If you still cannot stand on Saturday, there aren't any hills at DamJAM that are too steep to walk!<wink> Do you have a triple??? Spin spin spin up those hills... no need to stand!

I'll be pullin for the complete recovery. Keep taking your ibuprofen and propping up that ankle!

Congrats on the 38 mile recovery ride!

sorry to be a killjoy but if it was me (which it is not, i know--) i would NOT do the century so soon after an episode of acute tendonitis - your ankle does not sound like it is healed yet, despite having managed a 38 mile flat ride and I would hate for you to really set yourself up for a chronic tendonitis situation or even permanent damage by doing a century when it is still not properly healed--

TxDoc - It has some hills:confused: However, I still have my granny gear so I should be able to spin my way to the top:) If not, I can always walk (no shame!!)

Batsheva - I know, I know.....however, with proper care and careful movements, I don't think it will hurt it any more than I did when helping my sister-n-law move. The pedaling motion does not cause me to move it in an aggravating way.....I will be checking in with my doctor first thing tuesday to see what she thinks :)

Too all - Thank you for your positive, healing thoughts!!!!
