I just bought a "salsa screen" for my food strainer. It's tomato sauce-making time, and doing it by hand (blanching, peeling, seeding, etc.) is for the birds. However, the puree screen makes sauce that's too thin for my taste, hence the salsa screen.

I'm continually amazed by what you can buy on Ebay.

Five tubs of my favorite hair putty. After it was discontinued, I couldn't find ANYTHING remotely comparable. Some guy in Canada apparently bought up a warehouse full of the remaining stock.

I use it so sparingly that by the time I'm through the five tubs, I'll probably have found the nerve for that buzz cut I keep talking about :D

How about the strangest thing sold on Craigslist/Ebay? I sold my used kitchen sink. We got a better one free from my uncle, pulled the cheapo builder one out and sold it. I thought it was weird to be able to sell a used sink.

I bought a very strange pair of Marimekko pants, black capris with white writing all over them (going in a horizontal direction), for $0.99. So not flattering. I'd have to be another foot tall to carry them off.

They are kind of cool though, so they hang next to my vintage '70s teal ultrasuede shirtdress that I've also never worn. It actually looks good on me, but my lifestyle hasn't seen the right event for this. Not a big disco scene here.

My FDH bought "Pablo the drunk Mexican," a papier mache guy sitting cross-legged with a long mustache, a sombrero, and a bottle of hooch. A bike shop owner was closing his store and selling everything off on Ebay. Why he couldn't have just bought a cheap derailer or cassette, I don't know. But I fear that Pablo will stare at me from across the room eternally when we finally move in together.

How about the strangest thing sold on Craigslist/Ebay?

I sold a 100 amp breaker box once on CL. DH was amazed that anyone would want it. And an old toaster oven that worked fine, but had a broken handle.

I gave away a few things, too: a light post, a broken CD player (kept skipping), a busted shop vac, a busted washing machine. People like to fix up the strangest things. But at least they stayed (temporarily) out of the landfill.

The oddest thing I've bought personally was lipstick. There was this color that I loved that had been discontinued. A girl was selling an unopened one, so I bought it. Kinda gross...I know. The things we'll do for beauty. :p

Oh, I also bought iced tea spoons to go with our flatware. Not really odd, but certainly random. ;)

Years ago (close to ten years, I think) I bought a Colorforms ad from the 1960's that had been pulled out of a magazine. I think I also bought a Slinky ad from roughly the same era. I had them framed for display in my office. I then lost them when I moved to Seattle. *sigh*

Well it might not be the strangest thing, but I got a Cyclops fluid trainer last year for $100. Now at the rate I've been actually using it, it's down to oh maybe $20/ride? OUCH! It's just that I have to move so much furniture to use it - I'd rather bundle up and ride outside. I really need a bigger house.

That reminds me. I ordered a CyclOps magnetic trainer from eBay last year, but the seller accidentally sent me the Fluid2 instead. Given the weight of the item, they decided it was less hassle to let me keep it than to send it back to them and then send out the right one. Score! :cool::D

I've bought some Italian movie posters from films by a director named Dario Argento. I have attempted to buy a snow globe with a scene from Fargo in it. I wanted the leg sticking out of the woodchipper because I remember when it was sold with the movie and I didn't get it. D'oh. I still don't have it.

I'm decluttering as the remodel winds down. Recently I Craigs'isted a box full of nails and a kick plate-the single strip of wood at the base of cabinet.

Also Craigs'd (is that a word?) a sewing machine table a neighbor threw out which was actually kinda nice. I could have re-finished that but just no room. The gal who picked up the table was very happy.

I was surprised that anyone would want nails :rolleyes: but that went to a gal who's starting the remodel adventure.

No I don't shop/sell on ebay at all. We are seriously running out of living and storage space at home. Nowadays when I buy new book (average only 1 per month now) or magazine, it is noticeable where we are.

My childhood Christmas memories are of a silver aluminum Christmas tree...it would shed abit each time in its fake way. :p

What do you do with the childcraft encyclopediae?

(It happened again today. I came home to find a package of stuff I'd ordered last week from a UK based store. They put an extra set of bottom bracket cups in the package. I'll contact them tomorrow to see what they want to do about it.)

Making costumes is one of my hobbies, so I've bought a lot of random stuff (wigs, shoes, stockings, other accessories), but on its own none of it is too off-the-wall. Probably the oddest individual item was a cheap red fedora hat that had a blue sequin band and feathers...

...but I ripped the sequins and feathers off, replaced it with a plain black fabric band, wore it with a red trenchcoat, and was Carmen Sandiego for Halloween. :D

The wierdest purchase at this household was a Violin-Uke. My husband actually got in a bidding war over it. That was back in the day before I taught him how to bid.

Growing up in a family that treasure hunts the auctions and garage sales every weekend for cool old antiques as our entertainment, when I first discovered eBay I went a bit impulsive and ended up with a wooden pipe organ pipe. I have since sold it and the little one my dad found one day to add to my collection (buy one thing and you're now 'collecting'!), but they were fun to hook up to the vacuum cleaner to reverse-play them! My hoarding gene is strong, but I've learned to sell a few things occasionally.
