Why I felt like I was blowing snot rockets every minute today on Diablo. My cold has ramped itself up and my poor nose is already sore from the tissues.

I sympathize. I've been sidelined the last 10 days with a yucky sinus/bronchial infection, right when the weather down here got PERFECT. What a bummer. Anyhoo, after uber-antibiotics I hope I am back out tomorrow afternoon for the fun women's ride. I just hope my legs aren't dead. And I hope you feel better soon! I did a rocket on a slow ride the other day in honor of Spazz, mahself. :D

I'm going to bed. I feel sorry for my pillow. :D I hope that decongestant stuff I took when I got home kicks in soon.

Me too Spazz - the first time I ever tried that I was a runner, and I ended up wearing it and having all the boys laugh at me! :o what a lovely experience! Here's my excuse why I don't do it now - I had an ENT doc tell me blowing your nose is actually very hard on your sinuses, it can inflame them and lead to sinus infections. The best thing you can do is snuff it back up and spit! and Spit I can do!!! ;)

It takes me such effort to hack up that stuff and spit, I can't imagine doing it on the bike.

Snot rocket suggestions:

1. Speed is your friend. They work best when you are riding fast. The rocket will fly away better. (Actually, the rocket goes the same speed; you just have a better chance of getting away from it when you are riding 20 miles per hour rather than 5).

2. Practice when you are alone. I think a big part of the problem is psychological. We just are programmed not to do this in public.

3. When group riding, launch them when you are at the end of the pack or at least on the edge. It is uncomfortable for at least two people (you and the other rider) if it lands on one of your riding partners...

4. Beginner's practice... Try it in the shower. Yes, this is gross, but you really need to know "how" to do it before your public debut!

5. They really do help! Sniffling and wiping your nose just doesn't cut it. Once you let one fly, you can breathe again!

Sorry you're sick, V. But the cookies are excellent! Just had another one. So how long is it before I can start whining again?

Better living through chemistry. Maybe I should buy Advil stock. I'll live.

I was whining to Sarah about maybe not making my riding goal for the month. I have to get more organized with that.

Yeah, I threatened to sic Jo "Mother Hen" Bob on her. Got to get those priorities straight.

V, you can always stay and ride the 75 with us on Saturday.

That would still leave me 125 miles short. Stupid yard work... I feel pretty good right now. I'll see how the ride home feels and then decide. Trust me, I'm not so crazy as to ride when I feel really crummy. Last April's mileage was high because I did the DMD staff ride.

V, do you want to do a junction ride Thursday afternoon, to help with your mileage goals?

And so glad I can resume whining, what a relief! It's just too hard to keep those whines inside.

Veronica (I love your name, by the way) - Get yourself some Mucinex. This past February, I had the worst cold/flu/throat infection. To help clear out my sinuses and less the awful post-nasal drip, my doc told me to use Mucinex. The medicine -- it's over the counter -- is a godsend. It'll will make your snot more watery so you'll be able to clear it all out without as much effort.

Oh yeah! Mucinex is great stuff! Works pretty past too!

Thanks for the offer, but I need to do 30 miles a day, every day this week, plus the 50 on Saturday. Procrastination is a beautiful thing. NOT! To make this doable I'm going to try to make my miles as flat and easy as possible. Today's ride was 30.3, with 1581 feet of ascent. Plus my massive round trip commute of 3.2. Giving me a total of 33.5 for the today. I'm ahead of my plan by 3.5 miles.

I may HAVE to ride up Hamiliton on Saturday.

V.

PS The nose is still running incessantly, but the ride felt good. The end of my nose is sore from running my glove across it. I'm such a wimp.
