View Full Version : Bored of black shorts

The title says it all. But I am too afraid to buy a pair of white ones...or any other color for that matter in case they make me look 10 times bigger. Perhaps black and white? But won't I end up looking like a cow?
I like the Gore Bike Wear Ozon shorts from the TE website - does anybody know how these fit and if they are comfy? Also, do they run true to size? I tried measuring myself with a measuring tape and compared it to shorts I already have and the measurements seem off. Where it says I would need a large, I actually fit in a medium. So not quite sure...

I have a red pair and a silver pair of knickers. I get bored with all the black too, not to mention they get REALLY hot in the sun.

I have these ones:

And I love them! Yeah they aren't as slimming as some, but they feel uber kyoot and the booty is mostly black. The fit is great, and the fabric is unique, stretchy and fitting, but not quite so uh, spandexy.

Are they really as high rise as in the picture? I was looking at these as well and the super high back kind of put me off.

What about some fun day-glo colored ones?

Methinks I will stick to black, when it's all spandex, shiny and tight.
But I do wear shorts with a waistband..that are more suited for walking /light hiking..usually a darkish colour of grey, dark blue or ...black. :o Yes, for same reason, when I get bored. I've worn such shorts on all-day touring rides.
But then I'm wierd, I cycle without padded shorts.
Yup. I'm still a normal female!

Okay, just for you I took my comfy PJ pants off and did a little grunt and wiggle dance to get into them. Oh Office A**, how you mock me! And yes, they do come up a fair way in the back. I kinda like it though because I have chronic jersey too shortness. I never thought myself to have a long torso, but when I tried on Speedo racing suits I had to get the long one.
Dunno, even on my presently fat tookus I really like how the back looked. Now if I could just finish the bike and get out there on it!

I like the black and white color combo, too... and I have these shorts. They look super cool... though not on me :(
I'm usually a medium, but gained a couple pounds so got a large in the Ozon short. They are elastic in the back, but not in the front. I thought this would be a good thing, but my belly pops over the front of the shorts if I get in the cycling position! I think I do better with wide non-elastic waistbands, or even just a typical all-elastic waistband. And because I went up a size, the chamois seems wider. Really my issue is I have a size large waist, and am medium everywhere else (okay- now I'm just venting about my own issues, sorry!).
I'd say if you are more proportional, then these shorts will work for you! They are high-quality, have a nice well-constructed chamois, and the white is not see-through.
just a thought... white shorts tend to go see through if wet.... so watch out if it rains.
The Giordana short look neat. The white short discussion reminded me of a thread with a review of the white Assos shorts: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=17469&
The same model of shorts is available in yellow, blue and red.

I usually buy a short one size smaller so that the chamois doesn't pinch or bunch up on me.
Have you considered trying a skort? It's pretty handy wearing one when you jump off the bike and runn into a convenient store without looking like you've got a maxi pad sewn to your shorts. ;)

Black shiny spandex really almost burns my skin when the sun is beating down on me. But I do not have the guts to wear white and the thought of wearing a skort creeps me out - too much like a skirt :p
mt - where did you find red and silver knickers?

I just ordered a pair of grey ones the other day. They didn't arrive yet but I'll let you know how they work out. I wanted to mix it up and have a change from the black too.

I have gray shorts. I put them on. I look in the mirror. I take them off and put the black ones on. Then I go for a ride. I have done this 2-3 times now.
I think they'll be my night riding shorts!

I have some pretty blue Shebeest Triple SSS shorts I got on TE awhile back -- they are fun to wear and are cut the same as typical black shorts. I love color since I sometimes get bored with black too!

No problem! I will do my grunt and wiggle dance for you any time! The super tight black Sportful Anaconda jersey I got to go with it, well, kinda snug now. Oh well, I see my chubby little thighs wrapped in not so flattering white as motivation, rather than embarrassment. If I think about quitting I just have to look at my chubby white sausage casings and keep rolling!

Trashy Cat (http://www.trashycat.com) used to have great patterned and multi-colored shorts. Now it looks like all they have are black or blue. However, it looks like some of the old stuff is still available in their "back alley" sale area.

Castelli has some black and white shorts. They look really cool...on the hanger. I'm afraid to try them on!
I like these: http://www.sugoi.ca/item/86973/SUG38103F
I tried them on and really liked them, but they only had one pair in my size and the pocket was ripped. I haven't gotten around to ordering them yet so I can't tell you how they are to ride in, but they do come in pink, blue and brown (and of course black!)
I've tried on a few different pairs of the Castelli shorts. They are really cool, but I needed to size up and they didn't have the next size (the ones I tried on pinched at the elastic - talk about sausage casings! eew!). The chamois is very butt-conforming so you don't get that maxi-look. Really nice.

I have these (http://www.2xu.com/triathlon/wt1223b.html) from 2XU in blue with the white accents. They are a tri-short and have a very minimal microfleece chamois, so don't buy them if you like a thick padded chamois. I love mine with the Deva WTB saddle... finally no more chafing issues.:D

Yeah, I tried castelli's as well, and I also have to go up a size in them. Damn Italian sizing! I tried the cocoon shorts, and they weren't comfortable...plus the chamois was sticking out in the back, adding to that maxi pad effect. I thought castelli's weren't supposed to do this?? I love the fit of their jersey's though. So comfy!

I have some blue tri shorts that I like. Yeah...I do believe they aren't as slimming as black but then again I got bored also. The ones I have are Desoto Rapida shorts but they seem to be on close-out.
I'd look for darker colors because white/light colors would be frightening, at least on me. Imagine the sweat! And rain!
I can attest to the tri chamois, esp for shorter distances. If your saddle works, you won't need thick chamois.
Dunno. I'm as vain as almost the next person but thing are what they are, optical illusions be whatever. You know?
'cept white...um...it's not the largeness that scares me but the capacity for "see-thru"? I just...can't go there right now.

The ozon shorts is good, but my favorites are Assos shorts. They come in regular shorts or bib shorts, and bright color combinations like red/black, yellow/black, blue/black... You can see them on the Assos website or on one of the dealers websites like Glory.

My inventory is all black shorts. I have looked at white shorts often though. In fact the white and black ozone shorts that smurfalicious posted are really nice. And those pink sugoi lucky shorts posted by flur are pretty cool too. I have always wanted a pair but never had the nerver to purchase any color of shorts other than black. Maybe if I lose 10 pounds this summer I will go for it and buy a pair so that they can reside in my bike shorts drawer! But I really do like those ozone black and white shorts . . . hmmmmmmm!!!!!
I may have to go for it.

I think they ARE American Apparel. Or at least they used to be. Could have swore I came across them when I was looking at their site for tank tops. When I am thin and gorgeous, wait, I'm already gorgeous, anyway, I'm gonna ride my bike in these:

I think they do - I fit the small and I'm usually a small in street clothes. On their sizing chart my bust and waist measurements match the small, but my hips are btw the small and the medium. Hope that helps :)

I got tired of them too...I don't like them mountain biking so I buy men's Fox shorts or I wear just regular tight athletic shorts because the chamois is starting to bug me.
I found a really cute combo though. Russell Athletic makes these cheap dri fit skorts (I got mine at Ocean State Job Lot for $10) and they don't have any padding, just a run of the mill short. Then if I want a chamois, I wear either a black pair under them or a liner. But the great combo is when I just wear a pair of tight athletic shorts that are longer than the skort under them that are a different color. I don't suggest this combo for hot hot days, but I ride comfortably 16 miles to work in them with no problem. If you can tolerate the no chamois, there are tons of alternatives...

On that Aero Tech website, the cheetah print spandex bike shorts are... SOLD OUT!?!?!?
Who bought them... are all of you guys wearing this stuff?!;)
OK.. but there is hope. Here's what I want! (http://www.trashycat.com/product_info.php?cPath=3_36&products_id=151) NOT! But I double dare anyone out there to show up to a club ride in these babies!
I stick to black. I felt really bright when I bought the tri shorts I have now (http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=30984)-- they have light blue accents! Woo Hoo! Look out world, I'm branching out!;)

Black shorts may be boring, but at least they go with anything. I have a pair of blue tri shorts that don't go with anything but the matching tri top. When I decided that I wasn't wild about the top I was kinda stuck.
