I decided i just didn't want my feet secured to the pedals yet...I fell down too many times to be having fun...:p.....so I got these grippy Tioga Spiders from Rivendell.

http://www.rivbike.com/products/list/pedals_and_so_on#product=14-054

I was feeling funny about having spent so much on them...but I got them on and rode 22 miles today with my tires full of air & my new pedals and it was awesome!

They are super grippy and small enough to not punch me when we're walking..

I love them. And it helped me really see all the virtues of my Aurora, how intuitive and smooth she is..and how easy it can be (climbs not hwithstanding)

ooooh..there's a pair on ebay for 70. new....

Thanks for this review. I am pedal shopping for my Surly LHT that I will be getting (hopefully) next weekend.
I think I might try these!

There is that set on ebay...

If you go to the Rivendell site, they have a bunch of cool pedals....they are also carrying the Power Grips that some of our TE feet use...and they have nice explanations of each..

No :o
But I recently bought pedals and I did consider them.
i thought they seemed like a viable and less expensive option.
Just puttin' it out there, you know?

I went with Crank Bros. Mallets.
Big platform and I can ride clipped or unclipped.

Ooooo.... I like those Mallets, Zen. I've been looking for something that has the versatility that the Mallets seem to offer for my stomp around bike. How do they compare for float with the Frogs? Also, are they pretty easy from which to clip and un-clip?

Got the Tioga Spiders on the LHT - you will definitely stick to these pedals! I just had the best ride!

Got the bike Friday evening but it has been raining since then so, this morning was my first ride. Wow! I am so impressed with this bike. I was riding a Le Tour mixte cruiser until now and didn't realize just how pokey she was until I got out for a good long ride on the Surly. She just goes and goes and goes : )
I had touring pedals on the LeTour and was sometimes slipping off those. I can honestly say I did not have a single issue with the Spiders.

Here's a really good review and it describes my experience exactly-

except for the part about beating up the grip plate and they give you spares anyway.

They only have 6 degrees of float but at 26 degrees, nothing compares to Frogs:o

I LOVE the LHT and am so glad you like those funky spiders. The first time I used them I felt an almost magical transformation in my ride...it was awesome!! I'll take some photos of my AUrora w her spiders today...I'd love to see yr LHT too!

They are good looking pedals but...

anyone considering them should note this from the product description-

"NOTE: If you have wide feet and tend to supinate (angle foot outward) whilst wearing flexible-soled shoes, this pedal may be too narrow for you. Stiffer shoes, narrower feet, no supination tendencies is best. Mark here has narrow feet but when he rides these with flexy tennies, he feels undersupported. I/Grant have EEE feet and ride them in Teva sandals no problem, love 'em."

I'm just sayin', that's all.
