Baltimore's Tour du Port, sponsored by OneLessCar.org (http://www.onelesscar.org/), is apparently taking place on Sunday, Oct. 5th this year. DivingBiker and I did the ride last year and I had a ball (despite, or partly because of, the train that caused us to re-route). It's a terrific way to see parts of B'more that you might not even know exist.

Registration's apparently not set up yet, but is anyone else planning to put this on their pedaling calendar?

I'll have to look at my calendar and see if it fits.

That's the weekend of the Seagull Century (http://www.seagullcentury.org/) on the Eastern shore.
I'll likely be there that weekend with the BPVC (http://www.thebicycleplace.com/ride_with_us/index.html) folks.

Ahh, that weekend! I don't think I'll be doing the Seagull, but there's a triathlon on the 4th that I'm hoping to get permission to do. If I don't tri, maybe I'll do B'more.

Do you have to do the full 100 for the century?

For the Seagull??
They have 2 route options: A metric century (100 km/62 miles) or a full century (100 miles). You can do either, and still call it a "century"! :p

Right, sorry, I wasn't specific...I think I'll do the 62 miles for the Seagull
I'll post something on this separately on the Mid-Atlantic board, but I'd love to carpool to the Seagull. I'm in Capitol Hill in DC, and have a bike rack that accommodates one other bike. Anyone who's interested, please let me know.

You almost have to make hotel reservations now, or else you'll never get anything near the university!

now if you had decided to not book a room for an event you know that you are attending, which would you rather have a box or an accordion? box could serve as shelter, but the accordion could get you a few bucks if you can play like Steve Urkel.

If you play really well, maybe you can get invited home!

Just in case there's anyone out there not doing the Seagull Century, this is the last week for early-bird, discounted registration for the Baltimore Tour du Port on Sunday, 10/5 (shame on OneLessCar, sending me a "last chance" e-mail for early registration when I was never notified of a "first chance" )

Will I be the only TE'er representin' in B'more? This year's ride coincides with the annual Fell's Point Fun Festival (http://www.preservationsociety.com/fpff2008generalinformation.html), so there's an opportunity for more fun and good food after the ride. If anyone else is interested and able to join me, here's the ride info (http://ww.onelesscar.org/TDP/2008/).

Thanks for the head's up. I just registered, and I finally joined One Less Car too.

Yay, I won't be riding alone! I'm thinking of aiming for the 45-miler this year. Awful early start, but sounds like it could be nifty:

The 45 mile route will head out into Baltimore County and take in some of the more suburban waterfront areas.

So, I rode it alone after all, but still had a great time. OneLessCar did an excellent job. The Waterfront Park in Canton was a much better start/finish point than last year's in Fells Point, and their new pre-registration idea made the start run very smoothly-- Anyone who pre-registered received a number in the mail to pin to their jersey. With that number, all you had to do was show up, grab a cue sheet, and head out. Like last year, the route was so well marked that the cue sheet stayed in my pocket the entire ride. I didn't check out the pizza party afterwards (other afternoon commitments), but the mid-ride rest stop was a very welcome treat (fruit, bagels, cookies, pistachios!, etc).

No pics, even though there were several places where I wished I could have snapped a shot, 'cause Bawl'mer's just got so much character. But this was my first ride in almost a month and it felt so good to be pedaling that I just didn't want to stop. And I think I've decided I get a kick out of riding in the city. When's our next DC Tour?

And you with a brand new rubber camera. Shame!
