Not political at all... http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Barack-Obama-Democratic-presidential-candidate-Sen-Barack-Obama/ss/events/pl/020807obama/s:/ap/20080608/ap_on_el_pr/obama#photoViewer=/080608/480/6b9b87d3b55749138d81bba7671c18e8 - nifty bicycle but doesn't it look like the seat should be a tad higher? (Wonder if he would have been wearing lycra were it not for the press...)
How cool that he was riding around town yesterday! So was I, but not down in his neighborhood. Wouldn't that be something, to pull up next to a guy at the stop light, and it's Barak?!? Although I sincerely hope that he was surrounded by Secret Service on his ride. Cuts into the spontaneity, but I want him protected by more than just his helmet. :(
And I agree--raise the seat! :p

And put some air in that back tire ;).

so cool he is riding a bike. sure is different than bush riding a bike.
And he had a hitch hooked up to his bike. I wish they had taken the whole picture. instead of cropping like they did. And yes he needs to raise that seat. ooo that flat tire not so good.
still, very cool

Welp... if there was a kiddo on the other end of the hitch, that's probably a policy thing. (Snork... or a secret service guy who couldn't ride on his own?)
HA! I can just see the poor Secret Service guy assigned to literally protect Barak's backside..."c'mon, climb in the bugger. Nobody can see it's you...come on!" :p:cool:

The whole bike looks a bit small for him if you ask me.

Well, I admire his taste in bikes (a Trek)... and looking at the left leg where the pedal is just a little past full extension, his seat height isn't too far off. At least his knees aren't up around his ears like most of the other bros in the 'hood ;-) And the dude is wearing a helmet and glasses.
Definitely could use some air pressure, and is apparently a wienie when it comes to riding in the rain...

He's got his pedals right in his foot arches.

i wonder how he ended up on a bike that needed air in its tires?!
(he looks so young!)

There are 3 photos in the series of him on his bike, and in one of them he's turned as if he's yakking to someone behind him - which is cropped out.

it looks like a child's trail-a-bike. and am I crazy, or is his helmet unhooked in one of the photos?

Honestly, the fact that he's out riding, and in a commuting type of way makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
But...
I agree that the frame is too small and although his left leg looks OK it's a little too bent and it would be worse if he had the ball of his foot on the pedal ranther than the arch. And yeah, definitely needs some tire pressure.
Hee hee.... secret service in the Burly. That's an image that makes me smile.

I'm scared for him out on the streets unprotected like that. I'm sure the guys were hanging around somewhere, but there are also weirdos everywhere, too.
And give him a break--he's out with his kids! We should all be happy he's got a helmet on!

I was always impressed with JFK Jr who rode his bike often. Sigh. I will always wonder.....

Burley! That's what it's called! My mom always calls it "the bugger" when she lugs the grandkids around. Who knows why , but that's what we all call it. Can't you just see the Secret Service drawing straws for who will have to ride in the Burley today! :p

But nothing compared to when .... uhm, no politics now, I'm not saying what socks you should wear ;) if he wins.
That's why I'm not running "there goes the unplanned bike ride, I'd have to bring the Secret Service along". Yeah right.
Bet some TE'ers could form a nice pelaton 'round him. No matter which way you plan to vote it'd be a historic chance to ride with him "here, let me adjust the fit"
Nice choice of bike!! Doesn't say exclusive like Kerry riding a Serrota in lycra and clipless :o , not dorky like Dubya riding with the tooth protector  ;) Nice bike, not too nice, and way to go for the womens vote with the Burley. :D

I had a Bugger for SKnot when he was a little kiddo. That was the actual model name of the trailer. Printed on it and everything. I figured that who-ever named it was NOT from the British Commonwealth nor a fan of Monty Python. ;)

Considering the location of how they're mounted... the name is probably quite intentional. The way I understand it it's a pretty mild oath (not at all what cuss words describing the equivalent action would mean in American parlance) - but the kind of oath someone might use describe to describe the burden of pulling a heavy trailer - some of you Brits correct me if I'm wrong!
I mean, look at the logo for A-style clothing, after all. (And I can't find it on their website any more, but at one time they had a series of images making it very clear that yes, the logo DOES mean what it looks like.)

Do you suppose the Secret Service roll their eyes  when the Pres, former Pres, or a candidate says: "I'm going to go _____ today" (mountain biking, riding through the city, running 10 miles, climbing a mountain, go white water rafting, etc).
Do you think they're like: "cool- we get to go ______", or
"crap- we have to protect so and so while they're out being foolish doing ____."

Yes, that tricycle picture is priceless. As our current Commander in Chief loves to ride he probably had the same expression on his first bike. While I'm as blue as blue can be he has supported ICETEA (sp?) and expanded it. So he's made decisions that have benefited cyclists.
