We are finally supposed to have a couple of decent riding weather days so I can take out my brand new Trek 1500 this week, and I woke up with a head cold this morning. I managed one fifteen mile ride the day I picked up my bike, and it has been sitting in my foyer ever since. (It looks very nice there and I'm considering keeping it there permanently! ;) ) I am also anxious for the change to Daylight Savings time so I can start getting out in the evenings when it's nice. If we do actually get some nice weather, I think I will still toodle around the neighborhood on it, nice and slow so I can breath. Danged head colds!

You might be amazed at how much your head clears up when you're getting the blood pumping, the fluids flowing, and can blow snot every which way. ;)
I can't wait for the end of DST either. C'mon, Sunday!

Flush that cold right out with a nice oxygenating ride.
I have had the same thing and when I ride the crap comes out much better. Show who's boss....the cold or you?!
If however you are dizzy you need to flush it out with water and fresh juices! Garlic... vampires don't like it, neither do colds.
The bike is calling and you know it!

which is a very fine art I have never learned! the "every which way" usually means every which way on me!! I figure it must be like spitting - another very fine art I never learned!

I recall seeing this somewhere, maybe here: if it's all above the neck (congestion, etc), go for it, but if it's in the lungs, rest.
And learning to properly "farmer blow" is an important skill. Try it on solo rides at first, and anticipate the need to wash your gloves after those test rides. And don't be timid about it: blow that sucker! :p

Figured I'd ride tomorrow and Thurs if tomorrow goes well. *shakes head*...I know what ya mean newbie.....but I just keep telling myself - the warm weather is coming...I"ll have Plenty of chances to get out there.....a setback now would be Very bad!

Martha was released and brought home to spend time under a house arrest type time for the rest of her term. She is only allowed a couple of hours out of her home each day. The rest of the day she is inside... creating her next line of kitchen linen to be sold in stores near you....??

When I received my gorgeous Trek 5200 WSD in celebration of my five-oh it sat in our dining room for months :D Now it is displayed on a floor stand along with DH's 5200. Our 7500 FX bikes are also on display racks in the house.
During the winter and when not in use during 'biking season' my beautiful yellow & blue Trek 2200 sits in our downstairs family room on the trainer ...
The only bikes not in the house are our mountain bikes - along with #2 son's mnt bike and #3 son's hybrid.
While I b*tch about having to dust ... for some reason I never complain about the bikes. If any of them start to show signs of dust settling on the top tube .. it's time to get it out and blow the dust off!
Enjoy that Trek!!!!!

I had to move Fluffy into the garage this week. We had to move this in. I guess I'll have to start carrying a garage door opener,

that is a gorgeous instrument in a fabulous home!! I vow never to post a photo of my living room.
Veronica, I admire you yet even more. how long have you played the piano? I reached grade 6 in instructions...then gave it up to be a teenager. :) sometimes I wish I could start again, but I barely have time for my other passions and we have a tenant in our basement suite so I'd have to make do with electronic and headphones. bah.
Truly impressed.....

Ahhh... sorry it's not me, it's my honey. I used to play the flute - that's my music stand in the picture, but stopped playing to ride more. I'd love to fit it back in, it's fun to do duets with Thom on the piano, but my job keeps getting in the way.
Thanks for the compliment on the house. It's taken us a long time to get here.

OMG - I'm laughing so hard I'm crying! Mental image of V (in her gorgeouse cashmere jersey) sitting in the box with reins riding that baby down Diablo!!
and I gotta tell ya - trying to laugh "quietly" so the boss doesn't catch ya makes it even harder to stop laughing!!

You are too funny. I'm not touching that thing. I refuse to even dust it! Our 15 year old cat drools, I hope she never gets an urge to sit on it. She's been on the bench with her drool and Thom hasn't wigged out about that, but... the piano itself...

PS That red cashmere jersey is my favorite. I got a Bento Box because it doesn't have pockets. The fit is perfect (thanks Penny!) and it breathes so well.

I left the keyboard cover up 1 time V - and when the cats went to sit on top of the piano and stepped on the keys - I thought a tornado had erupted Inside my house. They still sit on top of the piano, but they don't use the keyboard cover to get up there anymore! Guess they didn't feel they were good enough to use the keys!! Anyway, she is a beaut and I'll bet the tone is amazing. Thanks for sharing the pix!

She used to sit beside Thom on the bench for his upright and put her paws on the keys while he practiced - too cute - but alas no pictures. She looks kind of reproachfully at him now because the new bench has no space for her.

Yippee Yahooo!! It was 65 degrees today, very little wind, sunshine. I took my new bike out after work and slowly toodled around my neighborhood, headcold and all. You guys were right; for some reason the head clears while you're riding. I was only going to ride for twenty minutes, because I feel like road kill, but I didn't want to get off, so I stayed on for thirty minutes. My mother would say I'm going to make my cold worse; I hope she's wrong! I cannot believe how much weight I have gained over the winter and how out of shape I am. It's going to take all summer to get back to where I left off last fall. :( But, Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend so next week I should be able to start going for longer rides on the bike paths after work. Be gone, nasty cold!!

Say when are you asking all of us over? Maybe after a ride we could just meander on by and hear you play a few tunes? :D :D
Looks pretty awesome, but so does the room!
I'm standing by for that invite! :) (I'll even bring treats!)

I had the same weather on Tuesday and got to ride to work for the first time since October (blubbery tears of gratitude) - that winter trainer work does not really substitute for the feel of the road and the actual hill climbing! I'm hoping some sort of muscle memory will kick in and we will get back to "fightin' shape" fast! It's that whole outdoor-spiritual aspect of riding that somehow makes winter training a weak, pale mockery of the real thing!!!
Of course, yesterday we had tornadoes and today we have 45 mph winds. Dang March weather!

I agree on the trainer not even coming close to the experience of 'real biking' (as opposed to pretend biking :D ) One of my resolutions for the coming new year was to change my attitude about the trainer (would welcome using the trainer and view it as an opportunity to ride rather than some sort of 'punishment), hills (I KNOW I can, I KNOW I can) and wind (It is what it is and b*tching won't change it but b*tching will affect my ride). Since the new year I have ridden the trainer six days a week increasing my trainer time from a half hour to over an hour. It really did make a difference when I finally was able to get out for three days in a row this week ... but there is still no comparison to being outside. My legs are definatley feeling the effects of biking in 15 to 20 mph winds and dodging small lakes and rivers off the melting snow even after all the time spent on the trainer.
Apparently we've all ready had our high temperature for today - 47 degrees sometime around 5:45 am - winds today are predicted at 45 mph which will certainly help dry things up but it meant that this morning I was clipped in biking on the trainer flipping through tv channels and looking forward to tomorrow.

I agree with your opinions about the trainer, and Biking Chick's opinions about wind and hills. I was not as good about getting on the trainer over the winter as I should have been; hence my poor condition. And, I don't like hills but I truly hate the wind. I'm going to try to ride in the wind this year, instead of not riding because of the wind. Spring in Ohio is always windy so, if I want to ride, I'm going to have to live with the wind. My question of the day is, why is the wind always coming from the direction I'm heading, both outbound and inbound? How does it do that??

Ain't it the truth!!! I head out struggling against the wind, looking forward to a tailwind on my return, only to find the wind in my teeth on the way home! Is this some sort of Midwest phenomenon? :D I think the weather guy calls it "light and variable" winds!

why don't ya'll come on down here for a spin or two? Due to the mountains we have canyons....which means we can literally have winds from 3 directions at the same time. They don't even post high wind warnings here until the wind gusts are over 50 mph! I love winds - Really!

HA! I guess our winds really are light compared to yours, CorsairMac!! I hope I can graduate to loving headwinds someday, too!
