Too Close for Comfort

On my commute to work this morning I had my mirror sheared off by a mini van that got a bit too close. It happened too fast to even get scared or upset; no loss of control over the bike, etc. I hate commuting without a mirror so the ride home will suck! :mad:

I got too close for my comfort to a pedestrian last night.

What an idiot: he was walking around his car, facing me, off the sidewalk, on the bikepath, and clearly saw me coming at 30+ kph. I thought he was safely on his sidewalk again when the moment I passed him, he stepped off again.
I hollered at him and boy do I hope I caused him a major fright = learning experience, and I am NOT sorry.

There are dozens of riders coming that way on an evening, what is he, stoopid?

Yeah, the mirror stuck out from my bar end. I'm looking at something new (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00168NURA) that will project less.

I second the Ultralight mirror option! I got mine recently (also from the Rivendell website) for a bike tour and love it. Easy to adjust while riding, if you need to. I have mine attached so that it hangs under the handlebar, rather than above or out to the side.
