View Full Version : Running Week - Jan. 22nd to 28th - Because I can.
I run because I can.
And because it's beautiful in the world out there at 7:30 in the morning as the sun rises and the moon sets.
Short, slow run this morning, but happiness for the whole day!

Thanks for starting the new week :)
I had a slow 2.5 miles this morning. It was cold! But it was clear and beautiful and I was surprised I wasn't really sore from my 7 mile run yesterday.

2.95 miles this evening for me in the full moon and the cold.:D
It was spectacularly beautiful. Too bad my legs felt spectacularly horrid. Heavy and stiff. Oh yeah, that's why I don't run back to back days usually.:p
Oh well, at least I got outside.

Three AWESOME miles!!! The best time I have ever run. I won't post my time because I am sure it is slow for most of you, but I am very close to my speed goal and that tickles me to death.
Also swam 800 meters (and came pretty close to a PR on that, too)!
It is going to be a fantastic day!!!:D:D

3.5 miles today. This was day 3 with no break and while I didn't have to walk, it wasn't as comfy as it could be. I will take a day off tomorrow. The good part of it all is I'm to 13 miles for the week so far which means I'll make my goal of 20 miles!
Another great thing is I'm to the stage where I kind of want to walk just because various things hurt but I don't. I actually have the choice whether or not to walk and that is kind of cool.

I'm taking the week off running due to my bruised/twisted ankle from the trail race the other weekend. I may try a short 2-3 mile run this weekend.
I was a naughty girl though and swam last night. But I only kicked with one leg, so I didn't do the ankle any harm. And dang, it sure felt good to move!

I did my first 5k run since all of the PT, etc this Fall. My hammies were feeling a bit tight during my stretches so I didn't push it very hard. There was a beautiful (nearly) full moon hanging in the sky.
I am happy to read others are having beautiful running times...
Went for a tempo run this morning. A lonely one, as my running partner greeted me in her pajamas and was too tired to run. :( But it was beautiful, although hard. Those crisp, clear days are soon to be replaced by more rain, so I'm enjoying it while I can!

3.44 miles today on the track doing form work and I water ran for 15 min last night. :) It's cold for here and I've been bundling up like crazy.

2.5 miles on the treadmill at the work gym at lunchtime. I usually do between 3 and 3.5 miles, but the battery in my MP3 player was dead, much to my chagrin, and running on the treadmill without music is near-about impossible for me! :(
Oh well, better than nothing....

2.65 on the treadmill, nice and slow. It was my first run since the 1/2 marathon last weekend and it felt pretty good.

I ran on the indoor track today. I don't know why I thought it would be warm in there but I did. I was wearing shorts and a sleeveless top and I was freezing. Colder than I would have been if I'd bundled up and run outdoors at -15.
It is very boring running on a track. My garmin data looked funny on a track. Plus I guess I didn't turn it off after the run because it said I ran 8.5km instead of 3.5 and that my top speed was 68 kmh. Hee hee....

I've left mine on in the car before too :D But that's GPS data from indoors, not foot pod? Is yours a ForeRunner 305? I guess they really do have a better antenna than the 301.
3.5 for me yesterday, nice and easy, just staying loose. It put me over 50 miles for the year. How did this happen - signing up for this 5K just because I've wanted the cool T-shirt for 3 years now - turned into actually training for it  Now I need a new pair of shoes, too.
I'm lucky I'm slow, it's one sure way to keep my competitiveness from eating me up :D I was out riding with a couple of guys the other day, at a fairly spirited pace. One of them I hadn't really ridden with before, he says to me, "You could be really good at this." I'm like, "Dude, I've done 'could be good at this,' and it's why I didn't ride at all for 10 years." I know myself better than that now

I'm sick. Haven't been running :(
I just watched the trailer for Spirit of the Marathon movie (you can check it out on Youtube). It's from the 2006 Chicago Marathon--the one marathon I've run. It got me all excited to do another one. I'm thinking . . . . maybe the Denver Marathon this time. Can't wait to go home and talk to DH about it. They even have a mini-mile-marathon for kids under 4. DD would LOVE that.

I ran 4.2 miles today. I dropped my truck off for servicing and ran back to work during my lunch hour. How's that for commuting.
This is my 4th day in a row running if you include water running on Wed. My lower legs are really sore. I wonder why? I just wanted to see how many days in a row I could do. I think I might have found out.:o

Today was 4 miles. I will run 3 tomorrow then it's 20 for the week :D:D:D
I need to stagger it out more though. I ran five days this week with no rest days. My only non-running day was weight training. I'm starting to feel sore. Not horribly sore but I can feel it.
The great thing about today was I was mildly fatigued but I could still muster up energy to do some half-hearted intervals. Oh and the fact I didn't walk at all!

No, I have an Edge 305. Not really meant for running but I carry it for the data. It doesn't bother me.

26:11. I saved too much at the end, but hey, it was my first one, a learning experience, nearly 2 minutes faster than I expected, and it was FUN! I happy :)

Yay Oakleaf!!! Great shot of you at the end too! My first (and only) 5k time was 26:17! Pretty close eh? But you were faster. :p :D
I did 3.3 km today. A bit warmer today (-4 C) but the roads are compact snow and ice so ran carefully. My calves are hurting again so I iced them, then had a hot bath and a stretch. Please let it be normal sore muscles.

5 miles for me.  I've broken some barriers this week. Mental barriers that is. I never thought I'd be able to go out and run 5 miles today. I ran frequently, not long but frequent, this week and I thought I'd have to bail today. So I went down to the track and did a very slow warm-up, some form drill, started to feel better so I popped off 2 miles in a high Z2, then cool down. Wow. I never thought I'd be able to run 4 out of 5 days without killing myself.:)
Great job Oakleaf!
I'm of for my last very long run (for me) before my half-marathon. Will report!

3.1 on the dreadmill today. I just cannot get myself to run outside when there is wind, rain, and thunder.

That's wise Frog. Here in the lightning strike capital of the USA, they're constantly reminding everyone that if you can hear thunder, you're in range of being struck, even if you can't see the lightning.
It's cool to read that many have discovered that they can run more than they thought this week! I also did that last week with six running days in a row. On the last day I thought I would just stop and sit on the sidewalk right then, so I think I will stick to five days a week for now!
Although I'm sure that it would be different (read: worse), I think I have a vague feeling of what the 20-mile wall in a marathon feels like.
I went for a long and slow run yesterday, 22 km with as low a heart rate as I can manage running (including on hills, which was a challenge). I wanted to give myself a little bit of a break because I had a tough intervals session on Saturday. I think I had run 22 km before, but never so slowly. It's great to run slowly, but it takes a long time, thus my joints got more tired I guess. I also had to be careful as a lot of the surfaces were quite frosty and some downright iced up.
The last 3 km were really unpleasant. Plus, I had needed to empty my bladder since km 12, had waited to get out of the woods (lots of people) and off to the beach (possibility of unlocked change rooms), only to find that all the beach restrooms were locked up. Really annoying, but another motivation to get home, so I picked up the pace on the last hill!
The cool thing is that on the 22 km loop I saw a couple of people, one local road racer on his mountain bike and another runner, whom I had also seen yesterday, two times at two opposite points on the loop. It makes for a more cheerful "good morning!"
This was my 18k+ run before my February 17 half-marathon. I'll take a week of active rest now. :D

Just sayin' it so I'll do it. I wish I had trailrunning shoes but at least my running shoes aren't brand new and clean. It's dirty out there! I guess I won't do the 8 miles I was planning on and I'll do something closer to 3 or 4. Ok, off to run. Accountability and all.
Some of you ladies are gonig to...... at this... but yesterday I had a 88 minute run scheduled... it was foggy and 32 degrees... so I went to the gym and hit the treadmill. I'm just not that hardcore when it comes to being cold.
I am trying to take up speed/race walking... so I decided to do this run with intervals of 5 minutes of walking and 2 minutes of running.
When I walked I had the treamill on 4.6/13:00 minute mile. When I ran it was on a 4.6/4.8, 10:20 minute mile.
After 88 minutes I did 7.25 miles with an overall 12:08 minute mile. On my long runs I would do around a 12 minute mile. So, I'm happy.

3.5 slow, mushy, painful miles. Running in the snow wasn't so bad but in the bits of part snow, part thaw/mud it was kind of interesting. I don't know if it was just me or if my running style was changed due to the snow but I was slogging. It was almost like the my body was completely out of fuel or something.
Anyway, at least I did it! And I am grateful that it is over :D

My calves are hurting SO much during and after my run today. I am SO fed up. I am ONLY doing 2 min run 1 min walk. I stretch before, during and after. I only run 3X a week, never two days in a row. I have not increased more than 10% per week. I have $400 worth of orthotics. What ELSE am I supposed be doing??????????

Still sick. I'm hoping to feel good enough to walk on the treadmill for 20 or 30 minutes tomorrow.

4 miles here. It felt better for a while then my stomach burned and my legs hurt. I thought I was going slow but according to my watch, I was faster than normal. I slowed down and figured I wouldn't walk because either a) I would keel over and barf then feel better, b) I'd stay feeling bad but what's the worst that can happen?, or c) it'd go away. It mostly went away but it took close to the end of the run for that to happen. I did run some extra hills because uphills were the only thing that didn't hurt :D Of course that made me tired but such is life.

3.2 miles today. My run was kinda like teigyr's: I felt like I was dying, especially in the last 1/2 mile, but put in a great time at this distance and didn't even realize it until I was done and looked at my watch. :)
