I just spoke to my very darling hubby. He should be "out" of the office in the official sense in another hour with his vacation payout and official notice that he can be a retired annuitant living out of state in hand. One more hour and I'll be married to a SROF, not just a SOF!
He's already got work to do next week. The Fish and Game Commission pretty much threw a hissy fit when they found out that the DOJ didn't have someone lined up and trained to replace him on time. Besides, with him as a retired annuitant they can actually get more hours of work from him which they've been trying to get for years. He gets to make a slow transition to full time retirement and gets to practice just the type of law he loves. The client and he both win, but nothing like bureaucracy for leaving things until the last minute.
So, we're packing up the last of the stuff and heading out tomorrow. We making it a two-day trip to accommodate the storms in the Cascades and the highway construction. We should finally be snug together in our new house in time to celebrate our 20th Anniversary there.
*SROF = sexy retired old fart.

Thanks all! You should have seen the Wonder Poodle Xmas Night when he saw Bubba for the first time in nearly two months. He didn't know what to do. He'd run to Bill and then run back to me as if to say, "Is this for real?"

Oh excellent! And - I KNEW they couldn't do without him!!! That is so great. Yay yay yay.
So we're in Tahoe and I am subtly planning our whole Bend/Shasta post DR vacation for next year. Timing depends on camp and kid's zoo internship schedule. Maybe she'll get eaten by a tiger. Wait is this thing on? So glad you will all have a lot of time to break in the house before entertaining us!
Welcome home Bubba.

YEA, congrats to you and your hubby on this new adventure. Retirement. Wish I was there...my DH will most likely retire in May...me, not for another 10...bummer....
I was just wondering what type of law your DH practices. It's always nice to hear about a lawyer who loves what they do- it gives me a little more hope. I'm counting down to my retirement, too. Only at least 22 more years. I have no idea how I'll make it...
Congrats and enjoy!

We'll drink a toast to you on your anniversary, though it certainly won't be at 12:01 on 1/1/08! :)
You just never know how the new chapter will unfold. Congratulations to Bubba for making it out with PERS still intact.

Oh YAY!! So happy for you and Bubba!
YAY YAY YAY!!
So Tony wants to know when we can come up and go mtn biking?? :D
I think Bend is the only place in Oregon he would consider living. He just loves it there... Of course the snow has to melt first. He does hate the white stuff! lol:p

Reporting in from rainy Redding. Testing out La Quinta and their poodle accomodations. So far, so good. aka_kim, you'll like to know that the WP is taking full advantage of familydom again by sleeping about shoulder height between the two of us, which is even a bit extreme for him. A bit of anxiety, eh?
Yeah, yellow, it was a close one with PERS. :p Of course, now Mining and Geology wants him to come down for their meeting in Feb and . . .and . . . and. Word went out fast. He's got several days scheduled in mid-February already so he may fly to Portland from Sacramento and back for the NAHBS. What a riot.
aly, hubby practices natural resources/environmental law. That's why he serves as counsel for Fish and Game. He's also done the same for Mining and Geology, Forestry, Air Resources, Water Resources, etc., over the years, but F&G is what he loves. It's kind of entertaining when he comes home from a day in court and flummoxes the opposition when he can use actual experience as in "I stood on that rock just last year fishing for steelhead, and I saw . . . " (or whatever is appropriate in court).
Who else? RM, IFJ, RR, X, MP . . . Thanks so much for your well wishes. I've been relaying them all to the Bubbameister. He was so exhausted last night that he couldn't really take it all in, but today he's loving it.
Now, if the weather clears just a tad tomorrow so I don't have to put my skid car training into real life practice.
Happy_Wheels!, I guess you can tell I am one Happy_Girl!

Ha! While I was typing this Bubba said to tell yawl that he is not retired, he is "alternatively employed." If he was actually retired, he'd have to wear polyester, drive a golf cart, and clip coo-pons so he could stand in line at Safeway at 5 pm with all the working parents, just to annoy 'em.

Congratulations, SadieKate! That is so exciting.
(My husband works for CDF -- or CalFire, whatever they call it now -- and we have lots of friends at Fish & Game and all those other places you mentioned.)
