I just discovered this site and the discussion forum and am having a blast with it!! I usually ride alone or with my husband who is way faster than me. Sometimes he will leave first and ride really hard for a few miles and then come back and get me so he is not so frustrated by my pace. I like to ride at a rate that pushes me sometimes and sometimes I just want to ride for fun. Is there anyone out there near me who is in a similar situation and would like to ride together occasionally. My typical pace is about 14-16mph. Is that embarrassingly slow? I'm not sure what normal is for a woman. I just know I suck compared to my husband.:p

Hey Teresa! I'm in Durham (not too far), but I'm sadly probably a little slower than you are. Check the Tarwheels (if you haven't done so) - www.tarwheels.org - lots of rides in the C pace, and generally a good group of folks to ride with. They have a "chat" and an official mailing list - great places to find more local riders:)

Teresa - I'm nowhere near your location, but I don't think you're at all slow! Left to my own devises, I tend to level out at 14-16 mph, too. When I ride with Mr. Sheesh, I like him to lead because it forces me to chase him, and then I can cruise a lot faster. But, I don't naturally sustain that pace on my own. Hopefully I'll get to that point within the next year, but for now, I'm pretty happy with going at my own pace when I'm riding by myself.

Thanks to both of you for answering me! I will check out Tarwheels. I appreciate the lead. And 14-16 is my best average. There are days when I don't even hit that. Both of you were very encouraging. Happy riding!

Hey Teresa!

My husband and I are in Greensboro just west of you. We should get together for a ride! We tend to average a little faster than that, depending on the length of the ride, but we like all types of paces. We'd gladly ride a fraction off our normal pace to ride with other folks. Sometimes the social rides are way more fun than the 'fast' ones. I know you've got some gorgeous riding territory your way, so we should totally get together! My H works in Burlington, so he knows the area pretty well (I don't, at all!).

Send me a PM if you are interested and we can try to set something up! :)

Teresa,

I realize that you posted this a few years ago, but do you still live and ride in Burlington? I participate in a co-ed group of all levels and we do group rides all through the week and weekend. Our main rides are on Sundays at 2pm weather permitting - this is a NO DROP ride. Meaning that you will not be left behind in times that you cannot keep up. Let me know if you would like more information!

Thanks,

Carmen

Hi Teresa my name is Shelby and I live in Burlington with my husband and we both have been cycling for a year now. We meet up with a group on Sun afternoons at the Elon Ball Park in front of the Fire Station in Elon at 2:00 pm and usually ride about 25-35 miles. This is a no drop ride and a group of friendly riders. You and your husband are welcome any time to join us we would love to have you along for a great ride.

Hi Theresa,
Looks like this post was a couple of years ago...hopefully you are still riding. What you discribed then is how I am now. My husband and I ride in Burlington with several different groups. My husband likes to ride fast but slows down enough to ride with me on Tues and Thurs night urbans in Burlington (actually he rides with this group without me sometimes). We meet at J&L bicycle shop and do about 17 to 23 miles at around 11 to 13 mph pace.

The ride you may be most interested in is a Sun ride at 2pm meeting in Elon at the ballpark. This ride is about 35 to 40 miles at 15 to 17 mph pace. Both men and women enjoy all of these rides....both of you could join us. If your husband wanted to ride fast pace, there are those rides in Burlington also.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Rejina
