View Full Version : I'm getting married!

I know I haven't been around lately. So sorry! So busy ... as you will see.

Thomas asked me to marry him last night!

We took a walk about 9 p.m. to a small park near my apartment. We were looking up at the stars, holding hands and watching the fireflies. Then I saw a shooting star.

The next thing I know, he is down on one knee. "I love you with all my heart," he said, with tears in his eyes. "Will you marry me?"

Of course I said yes through my own tears and he put the most beautiful ring on my finger.

How quickly and wonderfully our lives can change. The struggles of 2006 are virtually forgotten, and now I know they had a purpose because it is only because of that string of events that I met Thomas.

Wonder if we can go mountain biking on our honeymoon. ;)

CONGRATULATIONS SUSIE (AND THOMAS, TOO)! :D

I was wondering where you got off to. So, so very happy for you!!!!! Have you set a date yet? Wedding on bicycles maybe? Perhaps instead of driving away from the reception in a car- you ride your bikes w/streamers attached. Oh sorry- I thought I was getting married for a moment there. ;)

How romantic and perfect for a proposal!!!!!

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Congratulations to you both!!!
Your post brought tears to my eyes. I've been gone from TE for awhile (also being in love :p ), so I don't know the story of how you and Thomas met. Post it here? Hmmmm? Please....? :D

I did notice that the title of the thread makes it look like whoever the last poster was is the one getting married! Maybe we could change it to:
:D OTG TO MARRY THOMAS :D

That's awesome!! Congratulations, Susie!

Here's to many years of happiness together for the two of you. :)

PS - We went skiing for our honeymoon and I'd bet there is awesome mtn biking there in the summer. Check out Banff Springs/Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies for a supremely romantic spot! :D

Congratulations Susie!!! Thomas sounds like a real good guy.
I remember you, AllezGirl and I heading out for our first ride together last year. You were talking about how hard it was to get out there and bike. How hard it was to get an LBS around there to take you seriously and help you get the correct kind of bike. You were struggling but never gave up. You were just looking for a few people who understood your goals and knew why you were putting yourself through all of that. It's no wonder you ended up at TE. We saw you blossom and get stronger in so many ways, not just physically. Everytime we got together, AG and I always commented that you looked better, you sounded better, your overall being was vibrant and powerful. Then you and Thomas found each other and you just radiated happiness.

May you both have a wonderful and long life together. I wish you all of the happiness in the world. Yes, I think a bike needs to be part of your wedding/honeymoon somewhere because without that component, you may never have ventured out far enough to find him or the happiness you have in your life right now. So, get that guy of yours out on that mtb (let him win sometimes, it will make him feel good :D) and spread the love.

Congrats again,

~X.

Congratulations, Susie! Have fun planning your wedding and remember, focus on your life together AFTER the wedding. Hopefully, Thomas is obsessed with riding, too. My husband never says anything when I buy bike shwag. He just goes and buys more for himself!!!

Wow, shucks, thanks everyone! *blush*

How time flies! Yes, it was only January, but neither of us feel a need to wait longer.

Re: the date. We're looking at February because we want to go on a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon, so that limit it to Jan-April. But if we want to do that and then leave immediately for the honeymoon, then we pretty much have to get married on a Friday, which is good because it will save money.

I suggested Feb. 29 because it's a Leap Year, but he vetoed that, so possibly Feb. 22. Then our anniversary will be 2/22. That's pretty cool, too. But I haven't spoken to the church yet, so it will depend.

Re: the ring. It's beautiful! So beautiful! A three-stone ring with stones and beautiful edging (dunno what it's called) on the sides. I'll have to take a picture and post it.

Re: the bike. He owns a mountain bike, courtesy of AllezGirl. He rides that thing all the time. I'm working on getting him into road cycling, but he doesn't dig how much it costs. But we go biking generally once a week together and now he says maybe he'll even do a triathlon someday! (He says he's doing my next 5K with me, but we haven't picked a race.)

OTG,
I am so happy for you. A cruise sounds nice. I like the idea of 2/22. :) Your ring sounds gorgeous, please share a picture when you get a chance.

Re the date, I think there are times you just know. We did. I didn't even believe in just "knowing"! I think there's a difference, too, between meeting someone and immediately eloping and meeting someone and working toward a common goal.

There are tons of ways to lessen the costs of a wedding :D We actually got married on a restored 1930's ferry. Instead of a wedding cake, we had gourmet cupcakes...instead of champagne, we toasted tequila (er, champagne would've been cheaper actually!). We had a harpist for the ceremony/early reception then we made CD's for dancing and socializing. I am sure you will have so much fun looking around and enjoy the food/frosting tasting :D

I really can't wait to see a picture of your ring!!!
