View Full Version : Amici Veloci - The 2007 Order Thread

I’ve finally got the new order process ready and Snap has graciously agreed to collect the orders with payment via PayPal. If we can get the orders collected by July 18, the orders will be shipped the week of Sept 10. They’ll go off to the equally gracious Velobambina (to avoid CA taxes) who will ship the individual jerseys.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Amici Veloci story, here is the short version. Back in August 2004 I was diagnosed with MS and was open about it on this forum. I decided I wanted to ride in the Top Hat Classic 2005 (a local MS ride) and I suddenly received an incredible email from jobob, snapdragen, aka_kim, veronica and Adventure_Girl (now collectively known as the Bored Members). They wanted to be on a team with me, and I'd never met them! Wow, was I an emotional mess. Our team grew to 15 strong and we were the largest non-corporate fundraising team (thanks to many of you). Out of that we decided that we needed a jersey but that also we would try to ride one charity ride a year. We want anyone and everyone who wants a jersey to have to opportunity to buy one and encourage all to wear it in a charity event.

FYI, NEW THIS YEAR – WOMEN’S SLEEVELESS CLUB!

The details:

Fit: if you have a local shop that carries Voler team kit, ask to try it on. Feel free to ask anyone who already has an AV or Cinderella jersey for fit advice and we’ll try to help. The photo is of me in a size med women's club cut short sleeve jersey and armwarmers (I'm 5' 3 1/2", 135 lbs and have generous boobage).

If you know anyone that isn’t on this forum that might like a jersey, please direct them to any of the forums or www.amiciveloci.org. I’ll post this same info there.
May we all be Amici Veloci, fast friends.

SadieKate,

I would love to buy a jersey! Can I PM you to ask a few fit and ordering questions? Being extremely new to cycling, I'm debating the pros and cons of long sleeve vs. short sleeve w/arm warmers, and also club vs. race cut. Might also need a sleeveless... Can you please help?

Thanks!
Teddy

P.S. LOVE the design and colors on your jerseys! They're very cool.
P.P.S And someday when I learn to actually ride my beautiful new road bike, I hope to be able to do some charity rides too. Sigh...

Oh, just post your questions here. Chances are, someone else has the same question. :D

For the record, I also wear a medium. I'm 5'5", 155 pounds and I have boobs. ;) God, I can't believe I said that.

I find long sleeve jerseys kind of confining. I only have one and it's a Voler. It fits well through the chest and shoulders, but feels tight over my forearms.

I also don't think it's as warm as I would like. So I prefer a short sleeve jersey with arm warmers. It also gives you more options.

Club vs race - if you're curvy, go club. If your hips are more than 10 -12 inches bigger than your waist, go club. :D

Veronica - thanks for your reply. I just read SK's post a little farther down regarding ordering and didn't realize she was trying to go out of town and had asked those on the forum to help with ordering questions.

So, here goes:
1. Race cut versus Club cut? Race cut is smaller/tighter??? I am 5'3, 120lbs., fairly muscular with very little boobage. I'm thinking Size Small, Race cut...?
2. What do the arm warmers fit like? I have fairly large arms and am thinking the elastic at the top (there is elastic there, isn't there?) would be uncomfortable? Kinda like the elastic leg grippers on some cycling shorts - far too tight on my rather large legs.
3. Which leads me to the conclusion that maybe one sleeveless and one long sleeve would be good...or is it more versatile to have the short sleeve with arm warmers? I live in Jackson, WY and it's only summer here about two months of the year. The rest of the year is winter or mud season. The catch-22 is that most of my riding outdoors would be done during the short summer months. A little could be done in spring or fall, but winter is definitely out since its a vast sea of ice and snow here for at least 4 - 5 months.

It wouldn't be so hard to decide if I actually knew what the heck I was doing, but being that I have zero experience cycling, I thought it best to ask questions and get advice before ordering.

Thanks so much.
Teddy

V's right. Someone else will have the same questions. Guaranteed.

Please don't PM or email me. I'm packing for a 2 week trip and I won't be able to answer until late this month. I shouldn't even be typing this post.

Another note - the long sleeve jerseys are available in both the light weight fabric just like the short sleeve jerseys and also in the heavier fabric. Sometimes longsleeve jerseys are not as warm as a SS with an undershirt and armwarmers because they don't fit as snug over the arms but when I'm doing lots of layering with no intent to take anything off (can we say it was a cold winter here?), I prefer them.

OK, where is my sleeping bag?

Are there any pics around of the vest and the jackets?

Teddy
06-10-2007, 01:14 PM
Ah! Thanks for all the info. I think then maybe short sleeve with arm warmers and maybe a sleeveless just because... I am definitely not curvy and my chest and hips are just about 10" bigger than my waist so maybe Race cut would be okay? I also read that the Club cut has no elastic at the bottom and is slightly shorter. So the Race cut is slightly longer WITH elastic at the bottom? Hmmm...I dislike that elastic at the bottom.

The heavier weight jacket also sounds nice...

I'll work on this and get an order together this week.

Thanks again for your help!

Teddy

Hey, Kit and I are just checking on what cut/style we prefer and what sizes we take. I like the idea of SS with arm warmers. And no, I don't like the elastic at the waist either. I like my jerseys a little roomy so I can move. I'm not gonna ever be fast so I don't need it sticking to me like a second skin. :p

Jersey Styles.

The men's club cut is more straight up and down, the women's has a bit of curve, and no elastic in the hem (men's has elastic) Race cut fits tighter than club.

Sizing

Jobob's "5'7", 145 pounds, 34A on top, size 10. The medium women's club cut short-sleeve jersey fits me about perfectly. There is a bit of room left over for more boobage (as with all of my clothing ) but it fits fine on my hips...As for arm warmers, I don't have large arms and I went for the unisex small, but I find them uncomfortable. You might want to try mediums."
==========================
fishdr "my pants size is an 8. I'm going with the M club short sleeve."
===========================
yellow "5'2"? "36A. I have the women's club cut in a small and wish that I had a med. It fits, but more snugly than I like. I have muscular arms/back/shoulders, so that may be part of why it fits the way it does. I am generally pretty true to a small in just about everything."
==============================
slinkdog "I have the same jersey with a different design. I ordered a medium (no elastic, shaped cut) and I wish I had ordered a large. It fits, but the front is shorter than I would like (probably because of boobage) and it is very tight in the bust. If I didn't wear a smasher-type sports bra, I couldn't wear it. I am a 36 D, and I usually wear an 8 in pants and a 10 in blouses. Medium on t shirts from places like Eddie Bauer and Old Navy. "..."I think the Voler one I have is the women's club cut. It has no elastic in the hem and is shaped at the waist. It is pretty fitted on me all the way through the jersey, but especially tight in the bust."
==============================
Trek "Voler stuff I have and love:
vests: have a mens large (AIDS ride), a womens XL (velo girls)
jerseys: mens large, womens XL (race cut?) womens L (club cut?)
arm skins: both the velogirls and TA are medium. the TA's fit well, the VG's a little tight, don't know why since they are the same size etc, guess my arms bulk up in pink?-heh.
Me: short chubby gal, 5'1", 150'ish"
==============================
cindysue " generally wear a medium: 36C, 150#, wide hips, skinny arms, normal waist AV men's sleeveless race cut in medium is snug everywhere. I ordered the mens jersey thinking it would be longer in the torso than the womens but the tight waist band is a real downer. cinderella women's club cut in medium was too small. I traded it for a large and have a lot more room in the bust area. summary - women's large club cut works best for me" also "In Voler's OTHER fabric, I'm comfy in a small race cut. But as SK noted, this fabric fits a little tighter, hence the "smaller" feel."

*editors note-she's tall too
==============================
Adventuregirl "I'd also like to mention that the arm warmers run a little small. They are called "unisex" sizing. I would normally consider myself a unisex small. But I have medium arm warmers, and they are just about right. Unisex small arm warmers would have been too small for me." * editors note AG is shorter than me, but very strong of course
==============================
tprevost " got the sleeveless race jersey. My shoulders are so broad that sleeveless stuff usually works best!"
================================
SK: "5' 3 1/2", 135 lbs, short waisted, 34D, plenty of hip.
Women's medium club cut fits very closely, like a road jersey for racing. A large would flap on me. Unisex size S windvest - I removed the elastic and hemmed up. Fits snugly on the hips but doesn't flap in the breeze (I believe jo likes flap-happy vest while I hate the sound of it). Women's sleeveless Race Cut jersey in size med also. Fits much like the club cut after I removed the elastic and hemmed also as, otherwise, hem would rise to the point of least resistance - somewhere above my belly button. Size medium armwarmers - The smalls are a wee bit snug so I went with the meds. They feel a tad loose but don't slide down. I'm probably in the middle of these two sizes."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miscellaneous Measurements
So here are the measurements I took of the Voler sample jerseys in women's club cut.

For chest width (CW) I layed the jersey flat and measured across the front of the jersey directly below the armpits.

For front length (FL) I measured the center seam, from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the jersey.

Likewise, for the rear length (RL), I measured from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the jersey.

All measurements are in inches.

Hopefully these will help, along with Voler's size charts.

I have the long and short sleeve in medium and love them both. I find the long sleeve super comfy. Im 5'4" and 125 pounds. My chest is about 34B.

I love the club cut in the short sleeve.

I also have the vest and the thermal jacket. They are both available only in the 'unisex' sizes.

Like snap mentioned above, I'm 5'7", now up to 150 lbs ... grrr... wear a size 10 and I'm flat-chested (oops, 36A, not 34A like I said in snap's post above. Whaddever.).

I had originally ordered the vest in size Unisex Small, but I could barely get the darn thing to zip at my hips. And that was 10 pounds ago even, when I was flirting with size 8 :p

So, I sold the small vest to velobambina, and bought someone else's unisex medium vest. That fits me fine over the hips but it's a bit roomy on top, but that doesn't matter to me. It's a very nice vest, I wear it a lot.

As for the thermal jacket, I bought that in size unisex medium. It's fine for wearing over close-fitting cycling clothes (I wore it a few times this past winter when we actually had cold days, and it was a champ). But it's very snug at the hips if I try to zip it up when I'm wearing jeans. My only other qualm with the thermal jacket is that the arms are a bit long for me.

HTH, - Jo.

In case SK doesn't get to answer ...

PAB, you might want to consider a large, check out slinkedog's comments in the long post snap put up above.

What jersey size do you ordinarily wear?

DrBadger
06-10-2007, 06:08 PM
Woops... sorry, I had even read that post before :o

I have both medium and large jerseys, some of the large ones are now too big (like the one I was wearing yesterday). I generally wear a S or M in tops, but I am a petite on top, so most sized tops are 8 petite.

Hmmm.... decisions, decisions... I think that I am going to be in that crazy middle ground...don't like things too tight, but not too big just like Goldilocks! I guess I could always buy 2 of each and sell the other one here on TE... it would be sure to go quickly :)

SadieKate
06-10-2007, 06:33 PM
I'd barely make it in a size 8 petite top. I can't believe I'm posting this but . . . in a standard compression type sports bra my bust measurement is 37". Bear in mind fit-wise that I also have broad shoulders and the arms to go with them. The women's club in medium and the race fits very snugly on me.

A few less peppermint mochas would be in order.:o

That's actually a good way to do it, if you can spare the cash for two. I'm pretty sure you can sell off the other one very easily.

That's exactly what I'm doing for my Randonneurs of China jersey, since it has raglan sleeves & is by a different manufacturer so I have nary a clue how it will fit me, so I ordered a medium & a large, with the assumption I could sell one off at some point.

CC - you might be best placed to help me with sizing advice here, but others views welcome too

I am a Australian size 12 (well probably a 14 at the moment but I'm hoping thats just winter weight) and a NZ bra size 14 D (for all you other ladies thats 5'2", 130 ish pounds and a 36 D bra - I have no idea how your american sizes work) - I'm thinking I might need a large in the womens club cut - what do you think?

I thought about getting one last year but it was just a bit pricey - with the NZ dollar at an all time high against the USD now I have less reasons for putting it off

crazycanuck

Hey Kiwi Girl,

I'm the same size and ordered a medium club cut last year. The only problem i have is being able to reach the pockets :o

I'm going to order a large this time around as medium is great but the larger size might be a better option.

The AV club cut jerseys are wonderful as there's no elastic, they're suitable for Australian weather and they just feel right. They're sexy.

Can anyone compare the sizes to the Vello Bella jerseys? I have a large in last year's short sleeve (made by Hincape), and a large in this year's sleeveless (Giordana I think). Both fit well. I am 5'2'', 130 lbs and 36 D. Thanks, I can't wait!!

Hi all -

I hope these sizing suggestions are helpful:

1. Go to a LBS (Local Bike Shop) that carries jerseys made by Voler and try them on*. Remember: Women's Club Cut has NO elastic on the bottom, and Women's Race Cut has elastic on the bottom.

and/or

2. Pull a jersey or two out of your drawer which fit you the way you like*. Lay them smooth on a flat surface, and measure them. Compare them to the measurements provided below.

*Note: Please bear in mind that the fabric of the AV jerseys (called SQ Pro) is a bit less "strechy" than the fabric of some other jerseys - even many of the Voler jerseys. Many of the Voler jerseys (including the '06 and '07 LRRH jersey, and at least last years' bikejournal.com jersey) come in a fabric called Aries Micro-Plus, which is strechier than the SQ Pro fabric. One of the labels sewn into the collar of Voler jerseys shows which fabric was used. If you seem to fall smack-dab between sizes, you might consider ordering the larger size if you don't want your jersey to be snug around your chest, and ordering the smaller size if you don't mind it a bit snug around your chest. I actually did these measurements myself, so you can trust them ;) err... within a quarter-inch or so. :o

Remember, these measurements below are for the Women's Club Cut. Women's Race Cut should be similar in the chest area but will most likely be snugger in the hips on account of the @#$% elastic.

Since we now have short sleeve AND sleeveless jerseys available in the Women's Club Cut, then, unless you have no hips or butt, I'd personally go for the Club cut.

Unfortunately, the women's long sleeve jersey is only available in the Race Cut - sorry for my misstatement earlier.

--------------
So here are the measurements I took of the Voler sample jerseys in women's club cut.

For chest width (CW) I layed the jersey flat and measured across the front of the jersey directly below the armpits.

For front length (FL) I measured the center seam, from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the jersey.

Likewise, for the rear length (RL) , I measured from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the jersey.

All measurements are in inches.

Hopefully these will help, along with Voler's size charts. (see the

Just a note on the ss jerseys that I didn't see mentioned - they have elastic on the sleeves. The womans cut is a great jersey for women with hips, but I have muscular arms to boot and the sleeves are tight (which I hate). I've just been reluctant to rip out the elastic because then I have to sew it back up. But it must be done or I won't wear it.... Just wanted you to know.

You know, I bought the sleveless race jersey the last time and I LOVE it. I wear more sleeveless than anything else (it's fricken hot here!), so I'm tempted to get the club cut sleeveless too.

Decisions, decisions!

'cept for this whole "unisex" business. Nowhere on the Voler site do I see a "unisex" size chart. There always has to be a wrinkle.

I'm assuming that the small vest will fit me. If it doesn't, well, I guess I can offload it on the "for sale" thread.

Well, this IS exciting. According to the Voler website, the SQ Pro fabric has an SPF rating of UPF 50+. Yippee!

I'm managing a few minutes here and there to zip into the internet from hot and smoky Las Vegas.

Jeff sent me a lovely email today with the TE logo and we're going to add it to the AV jersey also. So the birthplace of Amici Veloci will now be documented in full AV colors.

Well, that settles it, I'm in.
I usually go sleeveless but I think the short sleeves really look good with the arm warmers.

It must be hard to "zip in" wearing those stiletto heels.

SadieKate

Kim, did anyone answer you? The long sleeve is the same as the short sleeve. It has the 20" zipper. the jackets and vests are full zip.

yellow, if I can get the unisex small vest zipped around my boobage, I think you can.

Snap, are we getting enough orders to make this happen? I'm a tad worried that the order will be below the threshold and we'll have to cancel. Of course, I could get you my own order but then I've been occu-pewed with other things.

Finally, some time to myself... I will probably be placing our order today as well. So many decisions... I like going SS with arm warmers. I start really cold but once I'm warmed up, that's it. I need to peel stuff. Arm warmers are nice cuz I can just tuck them in one of my jersey pockets and keep on going. When I stop for a rest and cool off a bit, I put them back on until I'm warm again. I also like having something other than black for armwarmers. I can wear these with quite a few other jerseys and still be able to display the AV logo proudly. I don't much like having elastic at the hem cuz I'm long waisted and they always ride up on me no matter how long they are cut. I'm 5'6", 34D with wider shoulders, so I think I'm going to go with the large. I like a little extra room to be able to hide "things" on those cool, crisp, nipply days too. :o Gonna go with a medium for the missus since she is usually one size down from me.

Now, off to figure out how to actually order. I haven't checked out the form yet. Ya only got until the 18th ladies! Get yer butts moving before it's too late. :D

Nope, 'fraid not.

According to the order form:

If we get the minimum # of orders (25 per category), then our order will be filled at the price shown on the order form.

If we get less than the minimum # of orders for a category, our order for that category will not be filled.

If we get more than 50 orders in a category, then the price goes down for that category.

The categories are "Short Sleeve-Like Items" and "Long Sleeve-Like Items". But check out the order form to see what specific items are in which category.

Snapdragen, CFO extraordinaire, just PM'd me. We've met the minimum for shortsleeve items at 40 (though 10 more would bring down the prices, hint, hint).

BUT we're still short on longsleeve items. Only 21 items ordered. We need 4 more to be ordered. A pair of armwarmers is just $32. Can we get any takers?

SadieKate

Go back up to the first threads for sizing recommendations. Here's some more info. I wear a women's medium and have the medium armwarmers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arm warmer sizing
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lying flat on the table, the width of the top/bicep end and then the lentgth:

XS - 4 1/8" wide and 17" long
S - 4 1/2" and 17 1/4"
M - 5" and 18 1/8"
L - 5 3/8" and 18 3/8"
XL - 6 and 18 3/8"

The fabric is a nice thick lycra with a fuzzy interior. Should be really nice for the coming colder weather (or current cooler weather for those down under).

Come on people ! It's 106 degrees out right now, so I know it's difficult to think of long sleeve jerseys, arm warmers and jackets ...but think ahead a few months. Come fall you'll be happy (and look so snappy) to have that cool weather AV gear.

Please, pretty please.....I already own an AV jersey and the powers-to-be need only four more orders and I can look forward to complementing my fall gear with a sweet AV cycling jacket.

Hey, does anybody have the heavier long sleeve jersey (Thermasenror Ultra) and also the Thermal jacket or vest (IsoWint Thermasensor Ultra)? How do they compare? The fabric for the jacket/vest would be really darn heavy to make a jersey. I'm assuming (hoping) that the fabric for the jersey is somewhat lighter.

Edited after reading the Voler site:
Ok Ok. I know I'm answering my own question. I did a little Voler research and thought I would pass this along:

The jacket is made of two fabrics:
It uses IsoWind for the front, collar, sleeve body and back.
It uses Thermasensor Ultra for the side panel, under sleeve panel and pocket.

The Thermasensor Ultra is the same fabric used for the heavier long sleeve jerseys.

Am I going to be the problem child again?

Last count I think we were short 10.
Save your money.I don't know about that. The first time we did this (2 years ago) we surprised ourselves and hit the target and more - at the last minute. If we do get 50 shortsleeve items ordered, the price for a shortsleeve or sleeveless jersey drops from $87 to $69.50, a $17.50 decrease or half the cost of a pair of armwarmers.

So don't discount this group.

I'd figured that we've had a few more SS/SL sales since the "10" count.

And of course, $69.50 is easier to justify than $87! ;)

Good morning!

SadieKate posted this on a new thread last night so perhaps you missed it:
http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=17350

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Amici Veloci jerseys - last chance ever at reduced price

Yoohoo! We hit the minimum of 50 for the short sleeve category which means the prices dropped to:

Short Sleeve and sleeveless jerseys $69.50
Wind Shell Vest $62.00
Thermal Vest $97.00

This is the last order ever for Amici Veloci jerseys. You have until midnight 7/18 pacific time to get in your order.

For those of you who have already ordered and are due a refund, please email snap again and tell her whether you want a refund less any paypal fees OR whether you would like to use your refund toward another item. Of course, you then need to order that item and pay her the balance.

Snap will not be refunding any moolah until she hears from you -- and she won't be refunding any money until we get the order squared away. First things first, okay? So patience please. Merci. :)

All the order info is on this thread: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=16314

We don't have a new order form up yet so make sure you use the prices above for items in the short sleeve and sleeveless category.

Argh!! I am being a problem child because I have been debating the size for 24 hours. I measured every jersey I own, but since I don't really like everything about any one jersey I am still lost. Okay....must...make...decision!

Hey Ama -

You might want to measure a couple of jerseys you already own of which you like the fit, per post # 34 way back in this thread.

hth, - Jo.

Ed to add: oops, sorry, my bad, I see you already did that. :o
In that case, I'd suggest erring on the large side, the fabric is not a stretchy as in some other jerseys.
