I created a course, or route, based on one I saw on Routeslips. I loaded it on to my Edge and used it today. I was very satisfied.
You can set your own "margin for error." I set it to warn me if I was more than 25 feet off of the course. On spots where I didn't follow the road too well when I built the route, I would get warnings. I also used some greenways which don't show on Google maps, so had to guesstimate, but seldom strayed.
I didn't have any waypoints or instructions, but these can be added. It would be very difficult to get really lost. I was on roads I was totally unfamiliar with. There were only a couple of spots where I stopped or got a little confused. But every time I was wrong and the Edge was right.
So nifty.
