Yes, I will be participating. Actually my club is doing it for the first time. They had never heard about it until I brought it up. They put me a coordinator. Now another club wants to join us and they are trying to get a third nearby club to join in to make a larger impact. So the little seed that I planted just blossomed as of yesterday. :)
Yes, it is Wed, May 16, 7:00pm

I finally get to do it this yr as well. Last 2 yrs work got in the way. We've had 2 people in our club get hit by cars in the last 2 months and 2 more in neighboring counties/city. So I really want to participate. Jenn

Good idea. I was wondering how they handle the different time zones? like at each TZ appointed 7pm everyone ride. Just a curious thought.

We contacted the website and said that we wanted to go earlier and they said that although they prefered 7, that they were ok with us going a little earlier. It's getting dark here by 7:45 and we want to be sure that everyone is back in.

Our club is organizing a ride. They want us to wear black arm bands. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make one or where to buy one?

Possibly. I'd like to but it's a drive from my house.

An old black sock works pretty well. (cut off the cuff)

I am giving them out to all the riders. I bought spools of wide black ribbon at the craft store. I cut it into 2 feet strips so everyone can tie it around their arms.

I'm probably going to tie a black bandana around my arm. That or use a black sweatband that I got at Dlck's

SOmebody in our club is just going to get black cloth and tear it into strips. We sort of were going to have one last year - but tornado warnings closed us down, and it was only four or five of us (mayeb would have been a dozen with better weather?). This year, unfortunately, we have more reason so I *know* we'll have more people.

Yes!!! Ride is organized by local bike club. Hopefully the weather will hold, evening storms are common in the south.

Yes, we lost two cyclists last year that were big contributors to the Cincinnati Cycle Club. We are having three starting points and will be converging on city hall for the ceremony. From the way it sounds we will have many people there to show their support. TV crews, newspaper, the full works.
Just last Saturday we had a memorial and two ghost bikes put up at the scene of the accident. We had about 80 people show up, very nice. The driver is to be sentence at the end of this month and was convicter of six counts of aggravated vehicular homicide. Yes SIX - one for killing them under the influence, one for killing them while his BAC was above .08%, and one for reckless conduct. Not to mention his license was suspended to begin with. Since there were two victims, multiply that by 2! Max sentence is 32 years.

I just went to the site yesterday to see where ours was, and we're not having one this year in our city. We had one last year, but I guess nobody organized it this year. :( It's too late to get the word out and organize it, so I'll just ride with DH at 7 on Wednesday and we'll have our own ride.

Strangely, there was a RoS planned for here in Victoria, but now it's been removed. I'm trying to organize one -short notice as it is- maybe it'll work.

This is an important event.
I am very surprised to not see an organized ride anywhere within 200 miles of my community!
My hubby and I will ride together for this (road).
The "lack of press" in this area suggests to me that I should try to find the time to write an editorial. I will try to find the time to do so btw. now and before press time on Tues. p.m.
A few have suggested wearing the armbands all day, as it gives people the opportunity to ask about them. (Not too many people will ask a group while riding.) Some thought this would give them a chance to "educate" as to the reason for the "Ride of Silence." I think this is a personal choice, for sure.
Certainly will be trying to raise consciousness. During the ride, will be offering up prayers/meditations/positive thoughts of safety for all riders!:)
Great ideas on the "armbands!"

I clicked on my state and the one I'm doing and one in Atlanta are the only ones listed in the whole state. I'm dissapointed in that. I hope others will have short notice-put together rides in the meantime.
