View Full Version : Dare I??
Ok, so DH is getting off work early so I can get a long ride in this afternoon....Turned on the news "WIND ADVISORY" starting at 11 AM yep winds 25-30 mph with gusts up to 40 sooooo, I guess I'll just look at it as good training for the Century coming up right? :(

It's called resistance training.....especially if pulling a trailer. If not you'll probably still get in a decent workout. :D
Here's to a headwind out and a tailwind home.......or better yet, the oh so rare tailwind out and back. You'd be flying.
Have a good ride and don't forget those glasses, plus staying hydrated (wind always messes with my drinking mind)!
Oh the trailer and baby will DEFINATELY not be accompanying me, I'll be lucky if I make it back...haha

Aside from the obvious resistance benefits  , it's not a bad idea to ride in the wind just so you have a sense of how your bike handles in crosswinds and how to stay under control.
My bike has somewhat aero/deep section rims (nothing too extreme, but have to buy tubes with extra long valves), and they catch the wind if I'm riding in crosswinds. I'm used to it now and know how to handle it, but it can be a bit unsettling at first -- a strong gust can throw you completely off your line if you're not ready for it.
I say go for it and have fun, and don't look at the speeds on your computer!!!
It's always great if you can find a route on which you're likely to have a headwind going out and a tailwind coming back. Makes you feel better about yourself.

It's the SIDE winds that make me nervous- I hate zooming down the highway and suddenly getting slammed on my right side by a 25mph wind gust just as some truck is about to pass me.... :(

Look at it this way you can do a shorter ride and still go the length of time you planned. Also you can do a shorter ride and get a better workout then planned, especially if you ride in a bigger gear then normal (insert evil laugh), it will hurt, and leave you gasping in pain, but effective torture.
I did notice on my ride today the best gust of wind I have ever had to ride through came from a semi coming down the road past me at 60mph. I felt it slap my face and it hurt a little. Oh yeah that slowed me down for a few seconds.
You ladies are right, dang, I only rode for 45 minutes and only covered 11miles but I averaged 14mph and got a high of 25mph with the wind behind me THAT was fun. BUT, OMG, like you guys said the sidewinds blew me off into the dirt twice then I had 2 HUGE Semi's back to back so it was one gust then the next one and I pretty much came to a hault:eek: . I did it though and I feel good. I just got home and checked average wind is 25mph with 45 mph gusts.
Oh, and I will NEVER try to drink in the wind again, I won't EVEN go into that story...:o
