I know I'm overweight - but I just got asked when my baby is due. Seems the office rumor mill has been flying about whether I'm pregnant and when I'm due.
I'm not pregnant - I've been on a diet and I've actually lost almost 10 pounds. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when I was starting to feel good again........ (and I might add that working 14 hour days is not good for losing weight....) I did feel bad for the lady who asked  - I tried to be nice and not make her feel bad since someone *told her* I was pregnant.

Oh how I feel your pain! The same thing happened to me. It was years ago (too old now!), but my (now ex) husband and I had gone out for a nice dinner. I was dressed in a skirt & blouse and THOUGHT I looked nice. The waitress asked. I said, "excuse me?" and she repeated it. I felt bad for her, too, and I was mortified myself.
I'm so sorry it happened to you, CA!! :(

Oh CA I can relate. It happened to me last year and I was mortified. Sometimes people need to think things through before they open their mouths.
Dont give it anymore thought.:)
Here is the link to the thread about my horrible experience.

See, this is where I get in trouble cuz if anyone ever said that to me, I would have to come back with some smart-alecky comment to make them feel as bad as I did. Do you know for sure someone told her that or did she perhaps use that as an excuse (make it up) for not having manners?
Don't let stupidity of others cause your determination to falter. No one is worth that.

I am sorry that it happened to you, but I do have a funny story about that!
I was a farrier (horseshoer) for many years and had pretty much retired by about 35. I was at a horse auction and was walking by a couple older men who had known me since I was a kid. One of them pointed to my middle and commented on how I was probably not shoeing "now". I dawned on me that he thought I was pregnant! I quickly explained that I was not, I had just gained some weight, and pointed to his large middle and asked him if he was pregnant! His reply: "No, and I ain't even been exposed!"

People are amazing. I'm sorry this happened to you.
My favorite related story happened years ago when I was a teen, when I had let one of my horses get overweight. I felt bad about it to begin with, then someone asked me when he was due. It was sort of sweet to be able to simply point out that males can't get pregnant, and watch the embarrassed expression.

people tend to skirt around the question with me, but never ask directly. My pouch has always looked "occupied" no matter what size I was. I figure now that if exercising 1-3+ hours a day doesn't get rid of it, well, 'ats da way it's suppose ta be!

I know I'm overweight -
I've actually lost almost 10 pounds.
Woohoo!!!
You go, girl!
Look, forget the rest. You're not as overweight as you were before, and you're cruising forward at the speed of light.
THAT'S what is happening to you, got that?
Anything else? A big fat "whatever."
You rock.

Thanks, ladies! You're awesome!!!!
It's just been a bad day (it seems that these things always happen when you're down) - I'm going to be up most of the night writing a brief - and you cheered me up! I bet she won't make the same mistake again.....Who knows if someone told her or she made it up. I do suspect someone told her something and she got confused, since 2 of our 5 female associates are currently expecting and have announced it. She probably just mixed me up with one of them.
I'm not letting it stop my goals (though the hours are certainly getting in the way of my biking!!). Course I'm also not going to their weight watchers meetings - somehow pressure to do that in the workplace just seems wrong....
Thanks again:o :o

Woohoo!!!
Ditto
About 10 years ago, someone asked Silver "when the baby was due"...
That was then:, she was chubby, ran 'like a girl' (you know...arms flailing), and was a weakling.
This is now: she has a six-pack, has run several marathons (starting at age 37), won her age group in her first tri-athelon in the fall (at age 42), and is anything but weak.
And it all started with the first 10 pounds!!
You keep up the great work!!!!!

This happened to a really good friend of mine when we had gone out shopping one evening. A sweet elderly lady clapped her hands together and asked "oh how exciting, when are you due?" My friend, unphased, gave a date like 2 years out, smiled at her and walked away. It was kind of humerous to look at the woman all dumbfounded, trying to figure it out.
I know people don't mean any harm in asking but my oh my, don't assume.
My sister had the same problem after she gave birth. She couldn't get rid off the collected pounds. Even two months after people where saying: "Oh, what a lovely pregnant women"
CA... you could always loose weight, but that people from your office are forever stuck with their stupidity ;)

Not to mention rudeness. It's never OK to ask a Q like that without knowing for sure that somebody is PG. I suspect that if others were wondering, she was the one nominated to broach the subject.
Answer (to her): Why do you ask?

It happened to me and I was mortified. I was wearing what I thought was a beautifully chic black linen sheath dress. Yes I was heavy but.. never did I imagine I looked pregnant.
The woman in the store was SO embarressed but I was so stunned by her question (Did I know if it was a boy or a girl yet) that I couldn't even deal with her. I don't even think I said anything at all, I think the answer was written all over the shocked look on my face.
Personally, I would never comment on a stranger's pending pregnancy no matter HOW sure I was she was expecting. It's just none of my business. A warm smile says "Hey, if you bring it up, cool, but if not, I won't say a word about it."
Besides, pregnant women get more than enough of "How are you feeling?" from people who know them, the last thing they need is to hear it from strangers!

Thanks ladies (and Mr. Silver!)! It's incredible that we have somewhere to come chat about this kind of stuff without people being judgmental - you've all kept me sane on many occasions! And your support is amazing!
It's a bad for me place to work anyway, so I'm already looking to get out. It's typical of the environment. For example, I have short hair and every time I get a trim, I get a slew of comments like "I see you got your hair cut - you'd look really nice with long hair." Plus, all of the female associates were given books by one of the partners - " how to play like a man and win like a woman." Without starting a debate (I don't mean to) - it's one of those books that tells you everywhere you have to do things differently to "fit in" and make sure society understands you (e.g. It's OK for men in business to be overweight, but not women). And don't get me started on the hours......
So, thank you all again! A friend I hadn't seen in several months asked tonight what diet I was on, because I looked great:D :D Wish he knew how nice that was to hear:)

A co-worker of mine was asked a couple of weeks *after* she had her baby when she was due. Ouch.

Bummer.
Brian Regan has a very funny audio clip on the very subject:

It's about halfway through around 2:20 minutes.
Hope you enjoy.
