This time of year I always want to smoke again. I quite 5 years ago. But when this time rolls around I have such an urge! And we don't always have a lot of sand sculptures to build this time of year. So alot is going out but not much is coming in. I mean we aren't broke or anything. But everything seems to fall around this time of year. Car insurance (which dh likes to pay off, cheaper that way no interest), doctor bills (we do all our examns and stuff this time of year too cause we are home) so on and so forth. I feel so stressed this time of year.
And my dh birthday is this month too and I always want to get him something nice but I have to watch it. He wants a cart he can put he's kayake on. It is so he can bring to the launch points without carrying it. That way he can launch from all kinds of spots. He ocean fishes out of he's kayake. But these carts cost a bit soooo.... (sigh)

We don't get refunds in house cause we are self employed. I pay 4 times a year in tax.
Ohhhhh I want a smoke soooo bad!

We often end up having to pay. I don't understand why when you are claiming married and zero the government cannot take out the right amount.

Yea really! I am hoping we don't owe this year sence we made less. But it is always a mistery. That is the problem with working like we do. Like contractors. It's the ss that is such a killer I think we pay 14% and we probably won't ever see any of it.

Have you consider to buy him something really cheap and spend the whole day with him somewhere in the nature or something like that, and than prehaps in two months surprise him with the gift he really wants. I do that sometimes when I don't have money, and the effect is even greater cause he wouldn't expect it than :)

You are a rockstar! If you're feeling stressed out, why not forget about the pressing issues at hand and throw yourself a little five-year anniversary party?

Luxuriate in your favorite ride at half the normal pace. Take in every bit of beauty that comes your way. Notice all of the smells, sights and sounds you never notice when you're in a hurry.

Make your favorite dinner, and eat it slowly, enjoying every bite.

Watch a movie with someone you know and love so well that you know exactly the right birthday present to get him.

And remember that there's no such thing as one cigarette. The next cigarette you smoke is the next link in a filthy chain that will pull you down and steal away all of the wonderful things you've gained in the past five years. It will taste horrible, and it will make you want to vomit.

Filling your lungs with poison won't make taxtime any less unpleasant. Celebrating your awesomeness might.

You've achieved every smoker's wildest dream. Don't feel deprived - celebrate!!!

Great post Freshwater.

I had a friend whose DW has her birthday on Dec 26th. When they were dating in University, he never had any money at that time of year so he would buy her something small, make her dinner, a movie... All the things already suggested here. But in the summertime, he worked construction and had some cash flow. He started the tradition of Half Birthday. They did a big day with presents etc on June 26th. All of us friends now celebrate this half birthday with her, it's tough to put in the adequate effort into her regular birthday due to timing with the Holidays.

Maybe you could do something like that.
