It's been like 10-20 degrees F here...just way too cold, or else I'd be adding more miles too! :( I'm just getting over stomach flu, but it's now 30F and if the sun comes out at all this afternoon, I'm going to try a SMALL ride, just to add something and get my muscles moving a bit again.

Woohoo!!!
I hadn't looked at those stats yet... I will conveniently ignore the fact that the weather is more favourable here and do a happy dance...

GO TE!!!

I haven't logged my Kms for this week even!!! And that's just commuting!!!! lol

Although it's going to take a lot to catch up to LPH, You're leading in the 2500mile race too!

(Psssssst: To all those confuzzled by some Aussie Slang taking the mickey is just nice words for taking the p*ss... Both mean the same thing. "I'm JOKING")

:( Haven't done a single kilometer for the cause (TE) this year. Rain and flooding, snow, bitter cold, wind, bronchitis, and now torrential rain again.
:(

Hanging my head in shame.... :(

Woops, when I added the commuting club I accidentally moved my miles there... they're back to TE.... winter? Did you say winter?

I've only got 12 miles on the trainer Popo - weather's been bad here too. Don't worry, all those southern gals can ride for us for how. We'll pack on the kms soon enough I figure. :D

Hiya canuck, nice to be missed :)

Nah, not hurt, but we finally finally finally got SNOW! We've been waiting for it for weeks, if not months, and griping, and worrying, about our unusually warm winter.

But now it's cold and white, and like all good Norwegians I'm going out skiing instead :)

(Ok, I gotta admit - yesterday morning it was -13 C, 8 F and I just plain wimped out. Monday and today I'm going skiing. Tomorrow I'm headed for the mountains. Next Monday I should be back on my bike).

Hope to change that today. <crosses fingers>

I wish I could count my walking commuting miles, my snowshoeing miles, and be able to convert my kickboxing time into miles....then it would look like I'm actually *doing* something!

Go girls of TE!!

Hmpf. I saw that club and thought "Oooh, rock climbers!"

But it's for people who are into weight training. It's not enough just to have biceps. Hmpf.

Well! If the weather prognosticators are to be believed -a dubious proposition at best- we could actually have riding weather very soon. At least, they are forecasting the kind of weather where there is nothing in the air except...well...air. No rain, no snow, no ice, no wind, trees, fences, garbage cans, or small animals blowing by in a horizontal fashion....just plain calm, air. And maybe even a little sun! It is almost beyond comprehension.

Bikes are tuned and ready, and restless like a team of Huskies, so here's hoping I can get a little distance between causes and effects and contribute a little to the TE effort. :D

Hey, it actually got up to 32F today, and I rode a measley 13 miles and managed to stay warm. The roads were nice and dry, and it was snowing big fluffy pretty snowflakes all the while I was riding. Very festive! But that's better than nothing- had been sick for a week, and have to work my strength back again- but forcast calls for in the teens over the next few days, so the 13 miles is all I could manage for now....:o I also walked 3 miles earlier this morning.

well - I'm 13th, but still 116km behind you CC... and some 700km behind PP!!

Doing my best, but I'm back to work this week, so trying my best not to let it crimp my style.

Trek! (sorry my brain did not register your name - doesn't matter where you live - you still belong to us :) ) So if we look at the top 20, we also have Rey from Perth and Trek from Aussie too, but currently lurking in Nevada.

But only four Australians and one NZer in the top 20... c'mon Antipodeans!!!

In the words of the immortal Freddy... "Get on yer bikes and ride!!!"

But you and your bike are not in the Southern Hemisphere, so it ain't summer. For mastadon-heritage folks such as myself, it's easier to get miles in cold than HOT. I do like desert animals and crawl under rocks ;)
I *thought* BJ was going to change so you could have your miles and eat them too... it could still come.
I'm going to think this weekend and just maybe start doing exercises fro the rest of the body ... if I do it for a week I'll get on that Biceps group, too. Hey, it's kind of a "make your own rules" club, anyway. If I pick up my bicycle ten times I'd call that weightlifting.

All the warm weather girls will have to do the riding for us all for now. Then when Spring hits us Northern gals we'll take over from the Southern gals who will be exhausted at that point! ;) ;) Like a giant relay race!

RoadRaven
01-26-2007, 09:35 PM
Yeah... I knew you were just joshing, Trek... but I didn't think to look at the names - I know you are Antipodean too!!!

Anyways Lisa... I reckon we get the better part of the deal... we get to set a beginning goal for you all... then we have a rest while you reach our mileage and set us our final goal. BUT you do NOT get a rest! You have to do it in one hit...

Then Spring arrives, we are rested and rearing to go and get to chase the "score"... woohoo!

Good relay of a kind!

If you're doing indoor km's, that's ok too :) Just want to make sure you guys are still out there!!

I'm still here canuck! Still some snow in the woods, so no biking in the weekends, and I try to squeeze in a ski trip or two during the week.

But the guys right behind me on my bike-to-work campaign stats have started smirking about how they're closing in. Nr. 3 recently passed nr. 2 on the distance stats and sent me an email with 1 sentence:

"First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin"

Hmpf.

Biking to work with skis strapped to my bike MIGHT be possible, but skiing home with my BIKE in tow sounds a bit too MacGyverish.

had tradies here all week.... and not working at uni cos the office is too damn hot (it's 30 - 34 degrees inside  )... so i'm not riding in everyday.

hope to do some early morning rides this week... my km's are looking very sad :(

I'm still here but am chomping at the bit and very frustrated. We had to cut last Sunday's rides short due to freezing rain on the road, and for same reason our indoor group spin session was canceled Thursday night (and I worked late?!). Today is GORGEOUS outdoors and where am I? Indoors at the dental office! DH is doing an emergency root canal, and no staff was available to go in with him today. I hope they'll finish up soon, maybe we can get 30 miles anyway. Sheesh.

...Biking to work with skis strapped to my bike MIGHT be possible, but skiing home with my BIKE in tow sounds a bit too MacGyverish.

I have one word that could solve this problem: pulk!

http://www.snowboat.no/Pulkdesign-filer/image002.jpg
http://pub.tv2.no/multimedia/TV2/archive/00222/turklar_pr10_vegard_222890a.jpg (That's Vegard Ulvang, btw, multiple Olympic x-country skiing champ with his daughter in tow.)
http://images.google.no/imgres?imgurl=http://www.xxl.no/upload/Vintersport/Tips%2520om%2520pulk/Barn-i-pulk.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.xxl.no/xxl_templates/magasinArtikkel____38951.aspx&h=285&w=285&sz=12&hl=no&start=5&tbnid=9_RjWN-rBn5OeM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=115&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpulk%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Dno%26sa%3DG

Cycling with skis in tow: lash skis into the pulk and tape the hip harness snug at the top of the rear fork. Maybe with an ingenious wheel mount under the pulk?
Skiing with bike in tow: lash bike onto pulk and wear the harness around your hips.

lph

shoulda known somebody would come up with a bright idea :p

We have a pulk actually, it's the same one my dh and his brother sat in when he was small so it must be over 30 years old. We used it for our son, but he never liked it much. It was pretty beaten up and the windscreen was too short so that I think he got snow in his face.

My dh used to carry him in a "Baby Bjorn" soft harness when skiing though, I didn't dare, I was too afraid I'd fall over and flatten baby...
