Picked up my new Bianchi Veloce today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only had time to do a quick 5 miles before heading out for class, but she is one sweet ride. Can't wait till tomorrow when I'll have more time to spend with her. Maybe then she'll tell me what her name is. Hmmm...

How exciting! I bought an Eros Donna in July but would have rather had the Veloce--primarily for the wheels and (almost) complete Veloce groupset. Did yours come with a compact crank? I'm interesting in your opinion on that....

Happy riding. I look forward to a full report once you have some miles on it.

Go green!

I was at a race this past weekend and one of the girls in the womens crit had one. It was a pretty bike, I think she either placed first or 2nd on it too b/c they already overlapped the group 1 1/2 times . Jennifer

Hey, Congratulations!
Can't wait to see pics.
Did you get the '05 with the triple or did you opt for an '06 with the compact? I recall that the '05 was a deal you couldn't refuse....

Bad JuJu

Right, Regina--got the 2005, which comes with a triple. Apparently the compact didn't come along until the '06 model, but I'm VERY HAPPY with the deal I got. My LBS rocks!

Is she bianchi green?

Bad JuJu

She's Bianchi "Celeste"--that's what Bianchi calls that green-blue color. It's too gorgeous for words. I've wanted a celeste Bianchi for years.

I hope you enjoy your Veloce as much as I have mine. She is a really great bike, now if mine just had an engine worthy of her! I couldn't believe how much lighter and faster she is than my mountian bike. Our bikes are twins. Mine is also a '05 celeste. I got her a year ago April and had to order her so I didn't get a bargin on her like you did, but I really wanted that beautiful color and there were none in stock. I believe Lise from Chicago also has the same bike.

Yes, Congrats on your new Bianchi, I think we'll all have to pinch in rides as best we can. I've a busy weekend ahead, w/ work and a wedding to attend and no time to ride except maybe fri afternoon, next week looks better. What names you got in mind?

Yup, gotta let the bike tell you. Flosshilde told me what she wanted me to call her as I was falling asleep one night. And that was before I even had her in my hot little hands!

Now that I have her, I must say the name suits her beautifully.

(actually, my dog's name "came to me" in the same way)

Pictures! One pretty standard pic from the side, then a more artsy one--I love Photoshop!
And possible names. So far, she's only whispering, so it might be any of these:
MizCrabtree (of Little Rascals fame)
Abby Normal (from "Young Frankenstein")
Sugar Magnolia (from nowhere in particular--though I think there was a popular song by this title, back in the 80s?)
Annabelle Lee (E. A. Poe)
and the one I'm leaning toward at the moment, Professor Sprout, from the world of Harry Potter:
"Professor Sprout was a squat little witch who wore a patched hat over her flyaway hair; there was usually a large amount of earth on her clothes and her fingernails would have made Aunt Petunia faint."
Sounds more like a MTB maybe, but still, I like the sense of tomboyishness.

Any preferences?

Professor Celeste Sprout??

Bad JuJu

Wow, Nanci--I checked out that century online--looks like you Gainesville cyclists have a whole cycling weekend. It looks like fun and I'd love to come, but our local century is that very weekend--it'll be Prof. Sprout's first metric, and my first in about 3 years.

So cute! She looks itty-bitty compared to my 53cm ... what size is that frame?

And your celeste is prettier than my celeste ... I got this paint job (http://gianni.bianchiusa.com/2003/site/bikes/27_VeloceX2_zoom.html) with the fade (although mine is the steel version) and I think it's kind of goofy.

Are you kidding me? I love that paint job on yours! That fade is cool. Of course, I love my own paint job, too. The frame is a 44, and I didn't realize just how tiny she is until I took the photos. Teeny-weeny for sure, but that's what fits!:D

JuJu, I adore my "bleached celeste" Eros Donna, but the Veloce in celeste is just as gorgeous. And I love the Campy wheels! Too cool! Your bike is even smaller than mine. My riding friends call mine "the itty bitty green machine."

Happy riding. That's great that you snagged an '05 with the triple. My biggest reservation (other than fit) about the '06 Veloce was the compact crank. My LBS neglected to tell me that they could have possibly gotten there hands on an '05. Hmmmmmm.

And we are the last of the Veloce girls, since they have discontinued it this year. I wonder why ... I always thought it was one of their most popular steel road bikes. I have never seen an Imola on the road, for instance, and I've only seen one Vigorelli, and the bike shop always has those left over after the Veloces have all sold. Now the Eros is the only steel bike they sell with Campy.

Bad JuJu
09-22-2006, 07:37 AM
That really is too bad, Xeney. I know the Veloces sold well at my LBS, too. In fact, that's one reason I put mine on layaway back around late July/early August--it was the last one from 2005. Probably only still around because it's so small, but just right for me! And look how popular that model is here on this board--many of the Bianchi girls here are Veloce girls, too.

It's the end of an era--glad I got in on it while I could.

Juju, your pictures look great on the website! I, too, was surprised to hear no more Veloches. We'll treasure the ones we have. Those wheels are soooo beautiful! I've settled, for now, on the WTB Comfort V saddle that was on my Larkspur. I put the Serfas saddle on the Larkspur instead. But it was galling me to have the word "Comfort" on my sleek racing bike, so I took a Sharpie and blacked it out! Of course it's on the bike because all the sleek racing saddle were killing my girly bits, but there's only so much indignity a TE Bianchista can stand! :p

Roger that, Lise! That cracks me up--your blacking out the "comfort." Can't say I blame you.

Yes, RoadRaven, that is she, in my avatar. What a sweet honey, eh?

BleeckerSt_Girl

Yes, that would be totally embarrassing to have "comfort saddle" stamped on your saddle! I would magic-marker it out too. Might as well have training wheels! :D
