I arrived with a friend at the designated meeting point... there were about 7 people there but we were early.
We were thanked for coming and given black arm bands to wear... within 20 mintues about 50 more people showed up... we totaled about 60 riders. A local news station showed up as well...
the organizers called everyone to attention and then explained why we were riding, asked if anyone had a particular person or person they were riding in memory of, reviewed road safety so we never end up being memorialized on this ride and then we took off...
the pace was about 9mph... in complete silence. Just the shift of derailleurs, and the snapping in of cleats... the only conversation was an brief explanation of the reason for the ride to bystanders who were curious...
we rode thru Old Town, and then on to downtown San Diego...
I rode in memory of Dr. Michael Hart and Marine Corps Captain Patrick Klokow... RIP.
It was a touching and poignant ride...
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
