    OT: That Pina Colada Song

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I don't know who sings it, or what its title really is. But it's on the radio now and it always makes me smile. Makes me wonder what I don't know about Thom.

Yep that's the one. It's totally cheesy and corny... but it appeals to the romantic in me I guess.

Ahh... the joys of Internet radio. I just checked, it's called Escape by Rupert Holmes. 'Cause you all wanted to know.

well, yeah. It was going to trouble me. That is a slice in time for me...late college...there was a boy on whom I had a crush, who really had no interest in me...his name was Joe...sigh. I think we actually went on one date, saw a Bogart movie. Or maybe we talked about a Bogart movie...you'd think I'd remember. I remember sighing over Joe when this song came on...wait, what am I talking about?!? It wasn't this song! It was "We had it all, just like Bogey and Bacall..." a song by the same guy? I'm an idiot! My own thread drift within a single post.

    ahem. never mind. L.

HA! Google! I never think of that thing!

Bertie Higgins...Rupert Holmes...they sound like the same guy in my memory! Thanks, V, for helping out the search-engine challenged. L.

Well... Thom's out riding his motorcycle. He's had it 4 months and only put 250 miles on it. It's not even broken in yet. Our weekends had been filled with my training. So, I'm puttering around the house today. We still need to replace the derailleur on my bike and I don't feel like riding my afterwork loop which I can do with just one chain ring. So... you're keeping me from being too bored. I may attempt the repair myself. If I get sufficiently motivated.

Hmm. Mike's had his motorcycle about 4 months, too. Just in time for the raniy season. Did Thom do a spreadsheet showing how much money you'd save if he got a motorcycle? Mike did. We should be rolling in cash right about now....

No... he's just tired of the commute. I actually sat on it today. Thom would really like for me to get a motorcycle. They are so heavy, even his which is relatively small.

    Escape...

    I luuurve this song!!!
As corny as it is... it is so catchy, and of course when I was a teen and it was released I thought it was incredibly sophisticated and romantic and clever.

I STILL know all the lyrics, and have been known to STILL sing it to myself.

I think its the imagery of two of the lines i like the most...

If you like ... getting caught in the rain.

If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape...

Mmm-hmmm, I do like that tune...

Also really enjoy Key Largo when it comes on the radio... though I havn't got all the words and tend to hum/mutter... and hope no-one realises I am stumbling through the words... you know when you make a sound in time with the tune and say the words a fraction of a second too late and then try and look cool like it was intentional and you're just trying out some interesting harmony...

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

Mike's is too tall for me, or I would learn to ride it. I had a roommate in law school who taught me to ride his in a parking lot. It was pretty fun.

Thom thinks I'd love riding one. I so seldom drive anywhere so I kinda don't see the point. If I'm going to go somewhere to ride - I'd rather be on my bicycle.

Thom's was fairly inexpensive. He's planning to ride the Davis course with it, so maybe you'll see him.

That's fun. I'll bet he'll have even more fun doing a double that way! You need to get him a bike rack for it - or better yet, those wheel racks like the Mavic motorcycles. So he can give you a spare wheel if you need it. Now that would be helpful!!

Did you fix your derailleur yet?? Is it going to be okay for tomorrow?
