    Thread Drift

I am probably the worst offender...

But how we handle it on my pigeon list is:

    Racing Pigeons

    Egg Buyer was Racing Pigeons

(Start a new thread with an appropriate name, that traces back to the original thread.)

Not saying we should do that- just that's how the mailing list stays in order.

Then- if we want to call a particular person's attention to a thread:

    Racing Pigeons- Julie

I'm sorry I cause so much thread drift...

Does anyone want to see a picture of my turtle? ;-)

I love thread drift! It's what the real world is like!

It seems like managing it is a limitation in the computer-human interface - if only we could "map" out thread drift visually - like a road map or a flowchart - then a reader could drift with the thread, or navigate just to the posts that connect with solid lines....

(granted this is the only forum I paprticipate inexcept for searching nerdy programmer forums (fora?) for specific issues, and those NEVER have thread drift...)

    Is that like continental drift?

On my "other" forum there's a Random thread that is just that, whatever comes to mind, random.

I have an annoying chin hair.

Are there tri-athlete racing pigeons? and do they have cute little racing pigeon jerseys with matching socks?

I love thread drift except when we're trying to organize the herd of cats for a ride. It is so hard to get them all onto one bicycle.

Okay, just because I'm morbid and wanted to know... According to rodentpro.com they use CO2 to euthanize the mice. That makes sense, you want to be humane and you don't want something that will endanger the snake or whatever is having lunch.

I always figured they gave 'em a good whack. Huh.

We should probably have an entire section on the board for "drift"!

I figured a whack would not fly with the humane police. Plus it wouldn't be very cost efficient to whack them individually. Can you imagine having that for a job?! Sadly, I think I actually have a few students who would think that was a cool job - Head Mouse Whacker.

I used to work with mice during a statistics class...
We were testing thier ability to learn/perform after having brain surgery.
I was the lucky person who got them out of the cages every day for 2 months and made them swim in a maze.

I don't want to go into great detail, but let it suffice to say that it was

    N-A-S-T-Y!!!!!!!!!!!

So, really thread drift is like free associaton???

The cost efficient thing is true. The humane police--it's funny--you're killing them so snakes can eat them... makes me think of a scene in one of those two movies about the Dalai Lama that came out at the same time years ago, where the monks were frantically saving earth worms at a construction site.

I had little lizards as pets many years ago. They ate crickets. Occasionally a cricket would escape, and we'd have chirping throughout the house until it reached the end of its natural life. Fortunately, that's not very long!

    Peanut butter ice cream.......

Oh, right, the cassette. Sorry to discuss cycling, but now that I have...
I have a Bianchi Veloce with a triple chain ring. I bought a 13-29 cassette to replace the stock 12-25. The manager of the LBS is kind of a character. Or a lunatic, depending on how honest I'm feeling. I was there with my bike to pick up the cassette and he told me emphatically that I'd need a new rear derailleur. I was pretty sure this was not true, and since he was going on and on about how many years he's been a bike mechanic, I put 2 & 2 together and said, "I'll just take the cassette, nevermind my bike." He grabbed the bike and put it on the stand and proceeded to change the cassette. So much for my escape. Anyway, of course it shifted fine. That was enough for him, and I've learned that I don't care for this man, so that was enough for me, too.

My other deal is that I'm coming out of denial about having pains in my back, in between my shoulder blades. I thought they'd go away after riding more - like it's a beginner's thing. So I would benefit from another fitting exercise, and I figure my best bet (and cheapest one) is to back to the store in SF. I may need to raise the handlebars or something. Then maybe I'll have a nice ride around the city, which is my original stomping ground.

Dachshund - there is a bay area guy who I think is the bicycle fit god, Curtis Cramblet. He's fit many of the folks who did the AIDs rides/LifeCycle rides. He's a coach, Physical Therapist, bike fit guru, all around good guy. Offices in San Jose or Oakland.
