I have been getting as much riding as I can before surgery. So, I realized today while riding with my neighbor, at the point where I was ordering my bike, I was insistent that I wanted rim brakes (this is what I was used to); disc brakes certainly would have come in handy when we came off a hill onto a street with heavy traffic. I also realized, that I may not necessarily love riding solo; I loved the "push" we gave each other throughout the ride. Neighbor: "I feel fairly good, maybe we should cut this ride short while I feel this way!". Me: "No, I think we should put in the time we said we would." Me: "Let's take a left here." Neighbor: " Let's go up this hill!". I really, really liked the camaraderie, encouragement and fun we have when we ride together. The LBS where I purchased my bike, has no drop bike rides on the weekend. I think I am going to take advantage of that after I recover. Riding with someone IS beneficial....much more than I would like to admit.

Amen!! When I have a bad experience -- when riding with people just doesn't work out as planned -- I remember the times like that (and remember who things "work" with...). Now, I'm one for "quit while you want more!" but ... I always want more

I couldn't agree, more. My husband has a disability that limits how long he can ride, but even though I do ride solo almost every day, I always go on a short ride with my husband around the neighborhood. I love riding with him on these short rides. It's very special for both of us.
