As above for all our friends in the path of that thing. Prayers for you all.
The news from Haiti is terrible, and I haven't seen anything yet today about the Bahamas but they got hit hard.
I remember Hurricane Andrew, back in the '90s. My job at the time involved managing direct mail campaigns. I got a phone call from the person who handled our list processing to tell me he was getting ready to fax me a list of all the ZIP Codes in Florida that had been wiped out so we could suppress them from upcoming mailings. A lot of homes and businesses were destroyed. These storms can be so powerful.
I'm glad Sheila evacuated, not glad that it was necessary but glad she heeded the warnings.

Don't know how I missed this. Thanks NY, we are safe and sound and living back in Illinois now. Our condo in FL is up for sale and survived the storm, but the carports are trashed and the docks are under water.
Glad the other TE'ers are safe and sound... but man NC is a mess right now.

Phew, Murienn, it sounds bad, but not horrific. Where did you evacuate to?

I'm glad you both got through it without major damage. I didn't realize you had already moved, Pax -- I hope your lungs are happier now! Best of luck with the condo sale.
Sheila, the situation you describe reminds of my hometown after Hurricane Sandy. I was there a few weeks after the storm, so the cleanup had progressed more, but you could still see where there had been trees and power lines knocked down. And the waiting and worrying about damage during the storm and immediate aftermath were terrible.
Hopefully things will get back to normal soon.

Well, the stupidity of people doesn't surprise me. From the damage we had after Sandy, I get what you mean about the trees. And we weren't even in the worst area for damage. My street had no damage and I only lost power for 2 hours. But, it was about 2-3 weeks until i could take my normal routes home from work. It was annoying, but I understood.
I have been to Buckhead, in the 80s. We almost moved to Atlanta (twice). It would not have been a good fit!

Sheila, glad you and your property are okay. I missed where you live. Is it St. Simon's Island, by any chance? I have a cousin there who evacuated and returned to minor damage, but nothing too bad, fortunately. My brother in Wilmington, NC fared well. He's been through a lot of storms so everything that's gonna fall in his yard already has! Farther inland was actually hit harder than many areas along the coast with all the river flooding in NC.
We were safe and sound in the midwest so missed all the "fun".
