Nice! I think the turtles I see around here do not have tails like that. Though it's possible I just never noticed.

I think the two black things on the back of the shell are leeches. This turtle was very far away from the water. I hope he found his way back but he was headed for the parking lot when I left. I might have helped but I am pretty sure that's a snapping turtle.

34 mile ride today. OK, I know I don't get as fast as most of you in these forum and am a really slow rider, but at least I rode!
If you're interested you can see my ride here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1180289824

Good for you, kajero. A 34 mile ride is a nice day's work in my book. I'm pretty middle of the road on average speed and though I work to maintain it, I don't lose any sleep over it or worry about how I compare to others, since I ride almost entirely solo. At my age, I'm just careful to make sure I am pedaling, properly, using the correct technique and posture, doing things healthy so I can continue biking until I breathe my last. Every time I think I'm getting pretty fast with my speed, anyway, some hotshot guy blows by me like I'm standing still. A couple days, ago, was a good example. I was at the end of a 25 mile ride and feeling pretty darn proud that I could still do a steady 14 mph on a long flat section, when this guy blows by me doing at least 20mph. I just waved and smiled and kept right on peddling.
Yup, that looks like a snapper. Watch your toes and fingers.
Yup, snapper. Mean buggers, but fascinating!
