And love's such an old-fashioned word

I was never a huge fan of David Bowie's music. I remember hearing Space Oddity on the car radio when I was very young. I recall my roommate in college playing Changesonebowie a lot on the stereo, and I very much did not get along with that roommate so I didn't really want her to play any music. But a few years later I went out and bought Changesbowie on cd, and there's not a song on it that I don't like. I love Modern Love. But I never sought out any of his other recordings.

Then there's Under Pressure. I love that song. I remember the tribute concert to Freddie Mercury, when Annie Lennox joined David Bowie for the vocals.

The lyrics at the end of that song bring me to tears, especially today.

More than anything I admire his different-ness, his courage to look and sound and dress the way he wanted, to be himself and then to change it all when it seemed right. I think he gave strength to others who felt different. I hope he did.

To me it was like he was singing the anthem of my life. I've always been an outsider and something about his music always went to my heart and seemed to give me permission to acknowledge my feelings and emotions, Freddie Mercury had the same effect but not to the same degree. RIP David!

I never knew it was him that sang any of those songs...
of course, this shows my total oblivion to music.

Though I wouldn't naturally turn to his music, he was a true artist --trying different things, breaking barriers and succeeding to be..his truest artistic self.

For the past 15 yrs., I tend to listen to classical (baroque) instrumental and choral music. I'm lazy, I just want pure sound, not words, to relax/zone out.

I go both directions with music, I've moods when only my favorite rockers from back in the day will do, and others when I need Bach or some other Classical favorite.

Changesonebowie was the soundtrack to my middle teenage years, I loved how he defied labels and being pigeonholed in a world bent on doing exactly that.

Loved him since I was in high school, let me know it was OK to be different. Cried a lot yesterday, felt like I lost a family member. To quote Margaret Cho, Rest in Power David. Thank you for everything.
