DC fall vacation, bike rentals and trails inquiry, Mt Vernon Trail

    Hey All
Looking for any tips/info on the GW/Mt Vernon trail. We hope to rent decent bikes. It looks like Bike n Roll (Union area?) is the only rental option. Someone suggested that the portion of the trail from DC to Alexandria is not that great. We certainly don't mind 20 miles each to Mt Vernon. We will not have a vehicle, and will be staying in the Mt Pleasant area. We'll be there in a few weeks.
    Tips, thoughts, suggestions?

    Cheers

There is a bike shop in Old Town Alexandria called Wheel Nuts, and they rent bikes.

I haven't actually met the owner, but he is a member of my bike club. I expect you could call them for up to date information about trail conditions.

Also for general info on rides in the DC area, including the Mount Vernon trail, there's Bike Washington. www.bikewashington.org.

    - Gray 2010 carbon WSD road bike, Rivet Independence saddle
    - Red hardtail 26" aluminum mountain bike, Bontrager Evoke WSD saddle
    - Royal blue 2018 aluminum gravel bike, Rivet Pearl saddle

    Gone but not forgotten:
    - Silver 2003 aluminum road bike
    - Two awesome worn out Juliana saddles

I have done business with this organization, and can definitely recommend them. They may be a good resource for you.

I've never ridden the Mt Vernon trail, but I've seen this bike rental business deliver bikes around town: http://www.bikestoborrow.com/

I live in Kalorama... PM if you'd like to get together for a drink/coffee. I'd recommend Mintwood Place for a bite (http://www.mintwoodplace.com). So far, one of my favorites. Enjoy your visit!
