TODAY (March 31) is the last day for early-bird registration for the Patuxent River Rural Legacy Ride on June 13.

    $15 TODAY, $25 from April 1 to June 11, $40 Late-registration after June 11.

Great scenery on low-traffic roads, multiple routes/distances to choose from, and the friendliest people you'll ever meet at the rest stops and picnic. If all goes to plan I'll be riding the metric.

Just a reminder that the Southern Maryland century will be on Labor Day -- Monday, September 7, 2015, starting in Indian Head, MD. You can choose from 17, 26, 47, 61, 70 and 100 mile options as you cycle through the scenic Potomac Heritage area of Southern Maryland.

Relax at a rest stop at Smallwood State Park.
Watch for bald eagles and blue herons as you pedal along the Tidewater Potomac Bicycle Route.
Brunch or lunch at Christ Church, Old Durham Parish.
Enjoy a rest stop at St. Ignatius Church at scenic Chapel Point
Discover history at the Thomas Stone Historic Site.
Experience nature on the newly reopened Indian Head Rail Trail

Online registration ($30) ends on September 3. Walk-up registration on the 7th will be $50. All the info including the links for the route maps and registration are here:

I will be helping out with the ride, transporting supplies and possibly driving SAG for part of the route.

There are also two rides coming up in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in October.

The Crop Hop will be on Saturday, October 10. This cycling tour of southern Maryland farms is a fundraiser bike tour designed to highlight the connection between farms, fresh food and good health, and to help provide fresh farm foods to low-income families in Southern Maryland. The location varies each year, with Anne Arundel County co-hosting this year. Riders will tour local farms and enjoy food grown and raised locally at each stop and during the after-ride picnic. The event features four spectacular routes through the scenic Southern Maryland countryside. Choose from the challenging Silo Century (a metric century), the Harvest Hop (about 35 miles), the Barnstormer (about 17 miles) or the family-friendly Sprout Route. Registered riders will receive a FREE commemorative T-Shirt and lunch while supplies last. A portion of the proceeds will be used to purchase fresh farm food for low-income families through an organization working to feed the hunger community. More info and the link to register are here:

The following weekend, on October 18, will be the Lifeline 100, hosted by the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Parks and Recreation and Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Starting at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville, MD, this event offers 100 and 65 mile routes on road and paved trail as well as 30 and 15 mile routes on paved trail only. The routes also have some options to shorten or lengthen your ride. The 100 and 65 routes wind throughout scenic Anne Arundel County including views of downtown Annapolis, the Severn River, Chesapeake Bay, southern Anne Arundel County, and BWI/Marshall airport. There will also be a free children’s Bike Rodeo hosted by BikeMD and a Make Health Happen community health fair. More details are here:

I plan to do both of these rides. I frequently enjoy riding in the rural southern part of AA County, so I'd like to support the farms there, and I'm looking forward to checking out the Lifeline 100 since it will include some roads and trails that I'm not familiar with. I also now have a family member who is a firefighter with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, so I'm happy to have a chance to support the Police Department and other county agencies who are helping to put on these rides.

I'm also looking into a few rides in Virginia, out around Warrenton, in September and October, which I'll try to post about soon. One (I think it's on Oct 4) supports the Wounded Warrior Project.

I'll also be doing the metric version of the Civil War Century again this year.
