four....titanium and carbon road bike for weekend climbing routes and fast day and supported multiday rides, steel touring/randonneuring bike for long distance and longer day mellow rides, aluminum internal geared commuter for daily rides and a steel fixie for fun. Seems like a perfect number to me

Jokes aside, your collection is AMAZING. Btw, I guess I'm not the only Cannondale fan around here

    Not too many "just enough"...

+ Waterford custom commuter (cost justified, of course...and I have secure indoor parking)
+ Surly Pacer backup commuter (because driving is not an option and the bus is just....well, a bus)
+ Waterford S&S coupled touring bike
    + Waterford go-fast
+ Surly Troll for winter commuting
+ Garage sale Terry for the trainer

All have a purpose; all get used. The newest bike in my stable is the Waterford Commuter, but like the other Waterfords is near to rolling the 10K number. The current race is between the S&S tourer and the commuter as to which rolls first. The commuter is the tortoise in the race, slowly plodding its numbers; the tourer rushes past it every vacation, only to see the tortoise plod by between trips.

Hmm...now that I think of it..not only do all have a purpose, all have their own unique personality...

I had 4 bikes but recently got rid of 2 of them. The one that got me started (Schiwnn Traveler) and my beginner road bike (Giant Defy 5). Right know I just own my Carbon roadie 2013 Fuji Supreme and my mountain bike 2012 Giant Revel 1 which I have not use yet this year . There are 3 more bikes in the house. A beautiful steel oldschool Bianchi that belongs to my oldest son, a Diamondback Response MTB that belongs to my youngest son and a mid 90's Giant OCR roadie that belongs to my significant other. Total of 5 bikes

    Love Never Fails

    2013 Giant Defy 5 - RB(Commute/Easy Rides) "Trooper"
2012 Diamondback Response XE MTB (my son's)

13' FUJI SUPREME 1.3C (Selle Italia Diva/Easton EC70 SL) "My Girl"
