    Snow

I've been trying to take the CX bike out in the snow for a while. I might have a chance tomorrow. Any tips?

Keep your weight back on the saddle (to keep traction on the rear tire). Keep your arms light, and try not to "steer" the bike (if you've ever ridden in sand, it's the same principle). Be in a harder gear than you think you want - keeping the power down is better than trying to spin with a high cadence.

    Be prepared to giggle .

Have fun! I LOVE riding in the snow!

So it ended up being a slush ride rather than a snow ride, because the temperature had crept into the upper 30s by the time I got out, and--who knew--the city does actually clear parts of the bike paths, since it looks like they also serve as access roads for the transmission tower-things along the trail.

Still, it was awesome, even though I ended up with a wet butt, feet and lower legs.

Slush can often be tricky to ride as well. We went out on the local trails last night ahead of the Nor'Easter we're having now (that is dumping about a foot of snow). Figured that the rain and above freezing temps would have melted most of the snow, but alas, lots of snow still in the woods, and with the temps, it was corn snow and made the going VERY difficult (there may have been some swearing, and the SS MTB may not have been the right choice of bike).

You could ride snow here to your heart's content today!

Glad you got out, and that it was awesome.

It wasn't that bad, really. The trail is quite exposed in places, so it really was like riding through a Icee, only less blue and not quite so sticky. My tires work surprisingly well for slush, though there were a few places that I thought might be icy. If I were to stay in Ohio, I'd probably want studded tires for this sort of thing, but it might be irrelevant.

    I love my cross bike.
