    Question Hip, hip...

    ...replacement.

Severe arthritis in R hip. Bone spurs. I know the questions to ask the doc at second consult: what kind of incision (anterior v posterior), cement or no cement prosthesis, and if no cement how long to weight bearing?

Anyone here had THR? How was it. How was bouncing back.

Funny thing is this: I can barely walk a mile, and that was AFTER a cortisone shot, but I can bike about 20 miles in a day, maybe 50 miles a week over all. Not so surprising since there is little weight on the joint when cycling.

    Wish me luck!

My brother just had one and we were all amazed at how great he looked and how quickly he was feeling so well. I don't know any of his details though. We even laughed that he lost weight even though, in his words "I've done nothing but sit in a recliner and watch Storage Wars and Amish Mafia". We think it was due to less trips to the fridge for snacks. He also laughed that he now has to look to an exercise bike rather than a treadmill for his exercise, and he assumes that will lead him to want to get a bike to ride outdoors too, so he was asking our sister and I things like "do I HAVE to be attached to the pedals like you guys are?" Long story, with no details for you, but a positive story in that he's doing really awesome!!
You too can help me fight cancer, and get a lovely cookbook for your very own! My team's cookbook is for sale Click here to order. Proceeds go to our team's fundraising for the Philly Livestrong Challenge!

If you're on Facebook, check out Dinah Hannah's page. She's a cyclist who did RAAM last year, and just had a THR 2 weeks ago.

She's an amazing, very inspirational person - she went from obese to being an ultra-cyclist. And she seems to be bouncing back from her THR pretty fast!

Hang in there! It amazes me how quickly I see people back to their activities these days after a hip replacement. Sorry you have to go through this but hope the results exceed your expectations

We have a number of friends at our tennis club who have had THR and they bounced back amazingly well.

I would have to imagine after being in pain most of the time, it would be a tremendous relief. You'd need to be diligent on the recovery and PT.
