    New office, new commuting facilities

    To disable ads, please log-in.

In just over 2 weeks my office is moving to a brand new facility. They are committed to energy efficiency, including special parking for low-e vehicles and charging stations. Also included in the parking garage are bunches of bike racks and 20 bike lockers! In the building is a locker facility that serves both the fitness center and bike commuters and other exercisers, including towel service.

After commuting 25+ times in 2009, 2010, and 2011 I only managed one commute last year (on Bike to Work day). I generally don't make new year's resolutions, but I'm making it a priority to commute at least 10 times this year.

Awesome! You are very fortunate. In all my years of working I was never able to bike commute. Between living too far from work and dangerous, super busy roads with way too much traffic (and no shoulders/bike lanes), it just wasn't going to happen. I would have loved to, though!

Cool. The racks are under cover in the garage?
Do you know how they are managing the lockers - if at all?

The racks are under a roof, but the roof is high and open to one side, so the weather can easily blow in (you can see the wet ground toward the front from a light rain that day).

I was told that the lockers will be first come, first served, just put your lock on. However, when I looked at them it seemed that they had built-in locks that require a special key. I've got about 3 months to figure it out.
