    Wheel damage

    To disable ads, please log-in.

My rear wheel has some damage on the brakeing surface. How major is this? I've had the wheel trued since the damage occured and it spins straight, but there are some scratches in the al. They look kind of deap, but I don't see any cracks. Mainly when I break I can hear it faintly everytime my wheel rolls around to that position again. I would think this is harder on the brakes but how might it change performance?

What you describe doesn't seem like a big issue. I don't think it will affect your performance....I would leave it for now.

Check the brake pads for any bits of metal. What you don’t want is any small metal bits from the edges of the scratch getting into the brake pads causing more scratches and noise. You could put some emery paper between the brake pad and rim brake surface and pull the brakes as you rotate the rim back and forth where the scratches are. That’s worked well for me. Scotchbrite might work too used just on the rim surface. If it’s not too deep there shouldn’t be a structural or performance problem. Did whoever trued it say anything about the depth being a problem??
