Poor failed hipster. Pretty bike, tho, perhaps just add some brakes?

Awwww...funny though. I don't, however, understand the attraction of bikes without brakes. Can someone explain that to me? WHY would one want that? I can sort of understand the attraction of having a simple single speed that you don't have to worry about shifting, but no brakes

That was wonderful. I, personally, like gears and brakes and am thankfully uncool.

We'll probably see a lot more of those bikes on the street after that new Joseph Gordon-Levitt bike messenger movie comes out. Too bad we won't see more people looking like J G-L. He's pretty.

A few weeks ago, my city was host to the North American Cycle Courier Championships. It was quite the scene. Most of them are amazing bike handlers.

Welcome back Glad to see you 'round these parts.

Sadly, hipsters are *never* that self-aware. Or at least the ones around here.

    That's funny.

    Zen, I've missed you.

Oh, super plus good! Thanks for the laugh!

Living in Twin Cities, recently labeled the hippest hippster spot in the nation, I see folks on fixies or single speeds all the time. I have to admit, deep in my soul I have a small hankering for a beautiful, simple, matte black, mahogany leather kit, wooden basket, blah blah blah single speed.

But no brakes? and can't coast? meh! The Devil, indeed!

They really are amazing. The championships must have been wonderful to behold.

    That is a pretty bike!!

As for no brakes, if you can do it then you've got great skill. My BF that has been riding bikes his whole life, has raced at a national level, routinely rides insane technical terraine on a rigid single speed... will not ride a fixie without at least one brake. It's scary stuff.

"Stop sign? Fixie don't care. Car coming turning in front of you at a three-way stop? Fixie laugh. Want Chipotle? Nope. Fixie want protein powder/beet/purple carrot/bee pollen juice and won't stop till he gets it. Fixie has a mind of his own."

This part had me laughing out loud, cracking up! That's funny stuff!!!
