    SF Bay Area Fitter Recommendations

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Hoping some of you bay area ladies have some suggestions for a fitter. I just got a new road bike about a month ago (my first carbon bike!) and want a more detailed fit then I got at the bike shop. I'm looking to spend less than $200 if possible. Thanks!

    Hi ninerfan,
Did you actually find a fitter? I’m getting a new triathlon bike, I have two mountain bikes but never owned road bikes. I think it will be fun!
You mentioned $200, is it average? If you found a good fitter, please share your experience?
I also have a question. If you live around Bay area, Alameda or Contra Costa County, please give me suggestions about nice and safe biking routes around bay area? Thanks in advance!

Where are you in Contra Costa? Diablo is a great ride. If you watched the AToC yesterday, they showed part of one of my favorite loops over Marsh Creek Road. It was the section with all the horse ranches.

I would recommend Paul Kundrat: fitsbypaul.com

He works out of my gym part of the time and is very highly recommended.

Veronica, maillotpois, thanks for your suggestion. I live in Hercules where the edge of Contra Costa.
Many years ago I got hit by a car – the driver found the parking space and suddenly pulled his car to right shoulder, but he didn’t check on his slight back of his right side where I was riding – that horrible memory and 3 scars with 28 stiches are keeping me off from the road that I have to share with cars. But I really want to try triathlon, and would like to learn riding on road. So my biggest concern is safety, good visibility from drivers.
I will check Marsh Creek Road. From Google Map it doesn’t look too far from Hercules. I checked Paul’s web site, wow a lot of information are there! I saw the picture someone riding in Napa in his web photo gallery. Napa looks nice place to ride a bike, too. I will start researching. Thanks again!

Marsh Creek from Clayton does not have as wide a shoulder and more traffic. I'm in Antioch so I can hit it a lot further out. Near Hercules there's the Pig Farm loop. Roads in Lafayette and Orinda have better shoulders and see more bike traffic, so I think cars are better behaved. But that's just my experience.

The Pig Farm Loop looks perfect! It loops all around where I live.
    Thank you Veronica!

If you're in Hercules this could be a little far for you but a great shop. He fit and built all my bikes and 1 of Knotts, Robinson Wheelworks

    Benicia/Martinez rides

    Ninerfan,
I am a member of the Benicia Bike Club. We ride your way often. The route Veronica mentions- Pig Farm loop- is easiest if you approach it from the east side. Another great route in your area is Bear Creek Road. If you go out Pinole Valley Rd and turn right when you get to Bear Creek Rd, that will give you a nice ride over to San Pablo Dam Rd. Then return to Pinole Valley Rd via Castro Ranch Rd. When you get to the end, turn left and you will be back on Pinole Valley Rd going west.

If you are interested in riding let me know. We come to Martinez and points beyond on Tues, Sat. and Sunday. You could meet us at the end of the Carquinez Bridge (Crockett side) OR in Martinez.

Look us up at Benicia Bicycle Club.org
