For Sale: Amazing Value Used S-Works Safire

    Moonbeam Needs a New Home

I love this bike. We’ve covered many miles and conquered many races together. She made me fall in love with mountain biking again after about 10 years away from it. But alas, as with many great relationships, we have grown apart. My racing aspirations have evolved and she’s no longer the right bike for the job. So as much as it saddens me to sell her, it would sadden me more to think of her hanging on a hook in my garage, never getting to go out to play. So here it is…

    For Sale:
    Moonbeam.
    $2500 You pay shipping.
Size: Women's specific frame in Medium. Effective horizontal top tube 56.5 cm. Here's the link with geometry.
Weight: 26.4 lbs!!! With pedals and all.
Frame and Fork: Carbon 2008 Specialized S-Works Safire with Brain technology
Components: All SRAM 2009 XO, except XTR front derailleur (which came with the frame)
    Brakes: 2009 Juicy Ultimate
    Crank: Truvativ Noir Carbon
    Stem: Thomson X2
    Handlebar: Ritchie WCS Carbon
    Seatpost: No offset Thomson Elite
Saddle: WTB Diva with Ti rails
    Pedals: Shimano XT
Wheels: Custom built with Velocity Blunts, DT Swiss 340 hubs and DT Swiss Revo spokes
Tires: WTB Wolverine with one season of use.
Wear: Make no mistake, this bike has been ridden a lot. But it’s also been very well loved and maintained. This was my cross country racing bike for the last 3 seasons and it was rarely ridden in anything but dry conditions. I have a “mud bike” for that. But there are many scuffs and blemishes on the bike, all of it cosmetic and not visible unless you’re looking closely. I would call the appearance of this bike 15 foot showroom quality.

I would be happy to answer questions about the bike or provide more photos on request.

Thanks V. I will edit the original post to add size. It's a WSD frame in medium.

    Bump

Just throwing this back up there. I would love to sell this bike to someone on the forum rather than taking it to Craigslist, or even worse, EBay. Ahhhhhhhhh!!![Runs away screaming]

I sent a link to your bike post to a friend of mine. It's killing me to see this post just sitting here with no responses. It's a killer deal!

    Thanks Artista.

I realize that this is not going to be an easy bike to sell. The price is high enough that most people would just buy a new bike rather than looking at it as a value purchase. So I really appreciate you passing this along.

You're welcome, Wahine. My friend is a long-shot since she just got back into road cycling after many years of not riding at all. I would just really like to see such a nice bike go to someone who would appreciate it - like my friend

You're right. A person could buy a decent, new, full suspension bike for this price but they couldn't touch a new carbon frame, high end components, shocks, and wheels like this for even twice what you're asking.

Besides, I'm guessing that this bike has good karma based on what I've learned of you since you got back on TE

    Love to buy it

Hello I'd love to buy your Safire. I'll offer you 1800 for it. I'm in park city (UT) do you know what it would cost to ship?

I just wanted to give this a bump and to let people know that this bike is still for sale. I'll likely give it until the end of the month before I put it on Craigslist and/or eBay.

    Happy Riding.

    Unhappy Sad day.

Moonbeam is being boxed up as we speak to go to her new home and owner in Maryland.

I actually got a little teary as I said goodbye for the last time.

We had a good run. I'm glad she'll go someplace where she'll get lots of use and love. But I am sad to see her go.

it is hard to let go your trusty old friend. You know how she handles, how she behaves and all that memory.

I was sad to see my litespeed go to a new owner. A doctor bought it for his 12 yo daughter. I told him she has a better bike than you. He smiled and agreed. I hope she is still riding a bike. Yes it was Titanium frame with full ultegra.

Ditto. I sold my beloved Titus Racer X to a guy for his 12-year old daughter as we were moving out of the country. She test rode my bike around the parking lot, and I felt so sad seeing them load a bike I'd loved dearly into their vehicle. But I was glad Dad was getting his daughter such a nice ride -- it was older but still in good shape, with excellent componentry.

P.S. I ended up wishing I'd shipped it to Belize after all as the unpaved and cobblestone roads here would have felt a lot better with a full suspension -- but I worried about maintenance in a harsh marine climate and riding on the sand. I figured the fork and rear shock, not to mention the gears, etc. would not do well down here, and they probably wouldn't have. I ride a SS beach cruiser instead. This way, if/when it's totally trashed, I won't feel so bad.
