I don't get it. I hope she doesn't try again. I dont understand the point, after two valiant attempts. Human efforts to overcome nature perplex me.

that's so disappointing. I suppose this crossing just cannot be made. Too many sea critters and strong currents. Too bad. If anyone could have done it- I would have bet on her!
Just curious- why doesn't she wear a thick neoprene wetsuit like triathletes wear? Seems like that would keep out the stinging critters maybe better?
I don't know anything about ultra endurance swims, tho, so I have no idea.
I truly cannot imagine a 67 mile swim. I mean, HOLY COW! My longest continuous swim was 3 miles and that felt like an eternity!

Too bad :-) I was really cheering for her.

I think it has to do with a lot of the ultra endurance swims following English Channel rules which do not allow wetsuits. Speaking of ultra swims, have any of you read "Swimming to Antarctica" by Lynne Cox? Amazing the things she has managed to do! After reading her book I just couldn't bring myself to put on a wetsuit for my ocean swims here...if she could acclimate to the temperatures she did for the length of time she was in there, I could certainly try to manage 60-degree water for 1.5 miles!!

Here's a NY Times article on her. She's a unique individual.
Fascinating read and a really interesting person.
Though not her--I do get it. Some people want to push new boundaries, and it is amazing in my mind.
I LOVE Lynn Cox's books. I really love them. She is also an incredible athelete!!!
She's trying again! I hope she can succeed this time - no one can say she isn't one determined lady!
Most days in life don't stand out, But life's about those days that will...
Again?!?! Awesome!!! I really, really hope she makes it. I don't know if I would have the fortitude that she does, but I'm so impressed that she's not giving up on her dream!

I really hope that she makes it this time, she has gone through so much in her attempts to do this. Hopefully her new suit will help protect her from the jellyfish...
The criticism in the comments of that article is fascinating. Regardless of it "not being the first time" or "being a stunt", it's still an amazing accomplishment and hopefully an inspiration.

Rough night last night but she's at 33.38 miles. Fingers crossed!

I have been away this weekend, but I follow Diana. This is a personal thing she just needs to do for herself. If you have followed her all along, you know this by now. I hope she makes it this time. She's nearly halfway which is really promising. GO GO GO Diana!!

She reflects on her attempts. Very moving piece, and possibly illuminating to some who struggle to understand why she does it.
