    Second hand stuff

I think I should change my user ID here to "Second-hand Cyclist." I purchased my bike used, and I've bought three of my four jerseys on Ebay and found them to be in wonderful shape once they arrived. Today a friend gave me two more that she no longer uses. It's awesome!

I'd like a second pair of shorts, but I'm wary about buying them on Ebay since I have larger thighs and most of the styles I've tried on don't look too great. Has anyone found a way to save some money on shorts? They're so costly...

I actually bought my best pair of shorts here from someone! I also bought two pairs of knickers on here!

I bought my least favorite pair full price at the LBS. My two cheaper pairs came from TJ Maxx, but I like them enough that I'll probably by the next pair from here. Easy enough to find, and I know the sizing now. I bought them when I did b/c they were cheap enough to experiment with.

I'm of the opinion that most cyclists think we don't look good in bike shorts. Not too many of us have skinny thighs. But when you see cyclists out riding, none of them look like their thighs are too big. (So in translation, I bet you're being more self-conscious than you should be!)

I'm lucky enough to find jerseys at the Goodwill here on occasion.

That's a great forum name, and if it's available you should snag it. But you are not alone, in very good company.

I found my Motobecane mixte abandoned by the side of the road. It's a thing of beauty now. Knott's classic lugged steel Giant road bike is from a thrift store and is stunningly remodeled, both of those by Robinson Wheelworks. She got her gold Waterford cross as well as the folder that now resides with her Mom here on TE. My sister, Duck on Wheels also got her Bike Friday here on TE.

I think this is the case. I think it's because of foreshortening (an optical illusion where things look wider that they really are due to perspective) that comes when looking down at ones thighs.
