    I finally did it!

I finished an open water swim in a race! My first attempt at an ows race was last year and I locked up 100 yards into it and turned around and headed back to shore--how humiliating! So I raced in the Memphis in May Sprint Triathlon last Saturday and completed my ows with no issues. It was wetsuit legal and we started every 3 seconds instead of a mass start which was a huge help.

It was my first USAT event and while my times weren't blazing fast, I had a lot of fun. I was second fastest in my age group in the bike, which is my best event, but I really have to work on the run. My legs were like jello and I had to use the bathroom so bad I could barely walk much less run. Can you believe that I actually used a porta-potty at mile 2? I'm sure it slowed my time by 3-4 minutes but it was as necessity.

    Overall Time: 1:39:09
    400m swim: 14:54 (slow but I didn't care-I did it!)
    TA1: 2:08
    12m bike: 42:09 (17.08mph)
    TA1: 2:27
    5k run: 37:31 (12:30 pace--counting the potty break)

I'm competing in a pool swim tri this weekend so I'm curious to see how my times measure up. I need to lose more weight and train more for sure!

Congratulations, Bike Chick! I always found the open water swim to be the most daunting myself, especially when there's the chance of getting kicked in the head.
