    Gee.
Any eggnog I've had in past has been bought from store. And drink only a small amount. Guess the homemade stuff would be better tasting, but just as rich? It must be the sugar and eggs.

Though I don't recall having any last year, there were other as equally rich/decadent edibles / drink that I had.

There are a gazillion varieties of eggnog, with varying amounts of fat and calories. For some folks, eggs and milk cause stomach troubles... but the faux eggnog just isn't the same.

One cold drink that could fill the niche of eggnog:

    Rumchata

2 parts horchata (or rice milk)
    1 part coconut rum
cinnamon or cinnamon schnapps to taste
    ice

No lactose, no eggs, no fat, vegan, and fewer calories. It was never meant to be an "eggnog" so it doesn't disappoint.

The sugar and eggs yes...AND the rum and the cream!

And without the carageenan and the stabilizers.

mmmmmmmmm, although I seem to have more of a taste for mulled wine lately.

.... and the bourbon and cognac ....

Unfermented dairy just kills me, but once every couple of years I'll make an exception for eggnog. This may have to be the year.

OK Scrooge, the holidays are once a year and indulging in moderation is fine. I plan to enjoy the festivities but not overdo it. Life is too short (a TimTam, anyone?).

Just keep up your workouts and don't go overboard with the goodies.

We get eggnog from the milkman (a dairy located up by Zen). It's made with cream and is decadently wonderful. Maybe I'll bake some of Veronica's chocolate chip cookies to go with it.

I allow myself to buy one quart of Safeway eggnog every year...it's the only store bought eggnog I like. Actually I don't just like it, I LOVE IT! But in a 1/2 cup serving, you get 180 calories, 25% of your day's saturated fat, and 22% of your day's cholesterol. Hence, the 1 quart/year limit. Thank heavens it's only on store shelves during the holidays.
