I was paddling in the Northern Neck over the weekend (no pics sorry) and a Great Blue Heron was on a low branch and swooped right over my head, croaking like they do. I about fell in the water. They are huge up close, and very pterodactyl-like.

My kayak is officially a tandem. I no longer paddle alone.

Ha Ha! I have a mascot too that I tuck under the bungy cord. It's especially designed to fend off errant jet-skis. What I really need is a side-winder missile!

Don't have a photo, but it's similar to this one:

I should have a link on my computer at home for a slide show launching "said sidewinder missles" from a kayak at jetskis who come too close. It's hysterical. If I can find it again, I'll post it here.

That's quite a bosom your young duck lady is sporting there! And what exactly is she gripping in her, er.. wings? In the first pic it looks a little like that ninja weapon thingy except it's missing the rope.

She's got a erlenmeyer flask in one hand and I'm not quite sure what's in the other hand, other than its lab related.

Catboo, were you in the Bar Harbor area? We were there in August, and those photos look very familiar!

The other hand appears to have a test tube, with some chemicals bubbling out the top.
