    Catoctin Aqueduct Ground-Breaking Ceremony

    I just received an e-vite to the Catoctin Aqueduct Ground-Breaking Ceremony. For those who weren't around then, several of us here at TE contributed to sponsoring a stone for the restoration of the aqueduct. Here are the details for the ground-breaking ceremony:

    Catoctin Aqueduct Ground-Breaking Ceremony Updates

    If you receive this email, you have been invited to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the restoration of the Catoctin Aqueduct located within the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park in Lander, Maryland. Please remember to RSVP by April 15, 2010.

    Parking :
    Unless you have received a VIP Parking Pass through the mail, the Park is asking all attendees of the event to park at the Point of Rocks MARC Train station parking lot.
    The Park is going to provide shuttle buses to take you from the parking lot to the

    The Point of Rocks MARC Train station is located on 3900 Clay Street in Point of Rocks, MD.

I don't know if I can make it because I'm leaving either that Sunday or Monday for vacation, but hopefully some of us can attend. Could be fun to park at Point of Rocks and ride down the towpath (or not, if it's packed that day...)

    C&O Canal Catoctin Aqueduct Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

    The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park is pleased to announce the completion of the restoration of the Catoctin Aqueduct.

    We would be honored if you would join us for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, October 15th from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

    Please RSVP by October 3, 2011.

    This long anticipated ceremony will highlight the continuous support and accomplishments of national, state, and local efforts that have made this project a success.


    Ceremony Details

    Preceding the ceremony, live music, interpretive programs, and tours of Lander Lockhouse will be provided beginning at 8:30 a.m. Activities will continue after the ceremony from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Light refreshments will be provided. The event will be held rain or shine.

    Parking & Shuttle Information

    Due to limited parking on-site, a shuttle service will be provided from 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. from the Point of Rocks MARC Train Station Parking Lot, located nearby at 3900 Clay Street, Point of Rocks, Maryland 21777.

    Shuttle services will resume following the ceremony from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

    Note: If you are a member of an organization that contributed to the restoration project, please extend this invitation to members of your organization.
    That last part is us The towpath will likely be hella busy that morning, but it could still be fun. I rode across the aqueduct a month or so ago and it was looking really good.

    Nah, I don't think any of the stones were inscribed. If I remember correctly, we sponsored one of the coping stones on the downstream side.
