Smile Bike and Build- Cross Country For Affordable Housing

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am brand new to cycling, but recently I learned about an organization called "Bike and Build." Bike and Build has 8 cross country trips starting on the East coast ending on the West coast. Each route has roughly 30 college-aged riders. This summer I will be a leader for the Southern route. Each rider raises at least $4000 for the cause. All of the money is donated to affordable housing organizations (such as Habitat for Humanity). I will be biking from Jacksonville, FL to San Francisco, CA. If anyone is interested in supporting me on my trip and donating to this great cause, visit: http://bikeandbuild.org/rider/4222.

Have been avidly reading all of the posts trying to absorb as much info about cycling as possible! This forum has proved extremely helpful!!

Keep us posted and put some pics here of your ride.

Good thing there are some rest days, in addition to the ride days and build (a house) days.

I did Bike and Build's Providence to Seattle trip in 2007. Best summer of my life. I was a cycling novice at the time as well. Good luck and have a blast!

I hosted a rest stop yesterday for the group who is biking from Nags Head, NC to San Diego. I think it was their third full day of riding and longest one yet. It was a great group. One already had some road rash going on, and there was one pretty bad bonk, but overall everyone was excited and happy to be starting their adventure. An alumnae from a ride last year drove an hour with her dad to bring them a hot dinner with ice cream sundae bar for dessert, and two other former riders cycled from Chapel Hill to spend the night with them and then ride back today.
