    Av mph in av spin class dispute

    My spin instructor for a beginer/intermedate class claims the mph for this 1hr class is 20mph. I think that's too high. What do you think?

    Ah, is this instructor an outside cyclist? What is s/he basing this on? It sounds crazy.

    I've never been on a spin bike that measures speed. Wattage, yes, but not speed. I'd ignore your instructor regardless. Everyone, from beginner to advanced, should get THEIR best workout, using the instructor's suggestions as just that. Suggestions. Set your pace and resistance to your abilties and goals. Your instructor ideally shouldn't establish one "speed"--whatever that even means on a spin bike--for the entire class.
    Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.

    Thanks, great explanation and sound advice. Big difference between my TT averages and her spin class (supposed) averages, huh?

    +1 Focus on your own ride! It's good to try to hit their cadence suggestions, if you can, but as far as how fast you are going, that's almost meaningless on a spin bike. I have been spinning now for 2 mos, and I still can't quite follow all of the instructor's instructions. I need to sit, pull back resistance, and recover for a little bit here and there. Just do what you can.
