Those of you who are inexplicably drawn to long-distance cycling ( or wonder why on earth anyone would attempt it ) might enjoy the progress reports being posted for the Gold Rush Randonee, which started yesterday evening in Davis CA.
    http://davisbikeclub.org/goldrush/Ri...ss/updates.htm

They have 90 hours to cycle 1200 km (about 700-ish miles) - here's the profile http://davisbikeclub.org/goldrush/im...Profile26k.gif

Alas, the rider I was keeping tabs on dropped out at the 100 mile checkpoint

(aw, come on, we can't blame my K of D on that ... can we? )

    Ouch I'm needing the jersey

and yes Snap, it was Sterling, along with and other contributor to the Riv list named Rob whom I have not met. AFAIK Sterling was riding Waldo's brother (same color Saluki , different components). Since both Sterling & Rob dropped out at the early checkpoint I can only venture maybe one of them had a problem and other other dropped to help out somehow - perhaps one had to get home suddenly and the other gave him a ride ? I hope no one was injured or ill. Time will tell.

ROFLMAO! I'm sorry JoBob I don't mean to laugh at you but hunny, hunny.....ya'll gotta stop rooting for ppl. It's ruining their careers!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
